Every hotel seems to have its ghost story. But only one hotel was the inspiration for one of the most iconic ghost stories ... of all time. In 1974, Stephen King checked into room 217 of the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. It only took one night in that infamously haunted room, and one vivid nightmare, for King to come up with the bones for The Shining. Today, the Stanley Hotel has earned a reputation as one of the most haunted hotels in the world... and according to staff and visitors... the spirits that haunt this building... are no work of fiction.
