New month -> new training horse!
Welcome Sister! This sweet girl is a 22yr old ex ranch and rodeo horse who has come in to get settled into a calmer retirement lifestyle. She is used to being hot and prancy in her “work” mindset but her owners are wanting to use her as their trail/leisurely pleasure riding horse. I’m excited to get to work with her and help her get used to her new life.

Spa day here at the stables❣️ Arlo, Raptor, Mac, and Zara all thoroughly enjoyed getting their winter dirt and grime off! They also all stood very well while I braided their manes and tails. Successful spa day! All good life skills to check off for them.

ARLOS FIRST RIDE WITH US! Arlo came to us already broke to ride but with a need of confidence building on the ground, in the saddle and in his faster gaits. When he first arrived, he was very timid and nervous of all of us at the barn and any movements, noises, strange objects, etc. after lots of desensitizing and ground work to help him build a relationship with us he was ready for his first ride. These first rides are a good way to get a baseline of what we will be working on during their time in training as most horses need more when getting into our program than the owner may know. In Arlos case, he was sent to us to work on transitions in the canter and overall getting more comfortable in the faster gait but as we’ve worked with him more we have found he needs some more work with using the thinking side of his brain vs. the reactive side. This will also help with him finding confidence in working with the bit and leg pressure, smoother transitions, and finding lateral flexion to improve his balance and carriage overall. This ride was last week and I have already seen huge improvements with Arlo through that small window of time. I’m excited to be able to give an update video when our time together comes to a close. Follow along to see how much progress we can make in the next 60 days!

The Sliding J team had a wonderful time at the Nina Halvorson Horsemanship clinic. Thank you Rachel Ann for being up for me riding Raptor today. He was a wonderful boy and helped connected many pieces in both of our education. Zara got to learn how to ground drive and I got to watch some of my lesson students dive deeper into the problems we have been working through. Couldn’t be happier with how the day went. ❣️

Welcome Arlo! This cutie is in for building confidence in his transitions and in the canter as well as getting more trail miles under his belt. 🙂

We welcomed Raptor to the barn on Wednesday! Today was his first time on the trails being ridden and he did fantastic! Loved the change of scenery and was calm and confident in the lead for the way home!
