Not every day you get to see such a beautiful, majestic creature right in your own backyard.

Of course, this particular visitor prefers free-range chicken dinners, so our admiration is a little complicated. 😅

Still hard not to be impressed by such an incredible bird.

Now the real question is: what should we name him (or her)? Sky Pirate? Coop Raider? The Taxman? Or do you have a better suggestion? 🦅

Free ranging comes with risks, and sometimes nature wants to be paid.

We’ve had a pair of eagles living around our area for years. They’re a regular sight soaring over the trees, and honestly, they’re incredible birds to watch.

It’s been years since we’ve lost a chicken to an eagle, but this week our luck changed.

As frustrating as it is, it’s also a reminder that when animals live more naturally, they share the landscape with predators too.

The eagles are such beautiful creatures, and while we’d rather they admire the chickens from a distance, they’re simply doing what eagles do.

Nature isn’t always gentle, but it is always honest.

We’ve had more than our fair share of soggy days lately. ☔🌧️ This video is from Monday when everything was still soaked, muddy, and wondering if summer had packed up and left.

Thankfully the rain has held off today, but the weather can’t seem to make up its mind -one minute it’s sunshine and blue skies, the next it’s gloomy clouds rolling back in. Typical Washington weather. 😂

The farm is enjoying the break while it lasts. Are you getting sunshine today, or are you stuck in the rain too?

Whew… things have been a whirlwind around here, and time is flying faster than I can keep up with it most days!

We’re currently stuck in a gloomy rain lull and set to get over an inch of rain today. Because apparently June forgot it’s supposed to be summer. ☔️

This little one, though, is an absolute darling. Somehow I started calling her Mocha… and then Darling… so one of those names may end up sticking. She’s sweet, quiet, and surprisingly well-behaved compared to the rest of the tiny barn monsters running around here.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Monday and manages to find a little sunshine, even if it’s hiding behind the clouds! ✨

Well, Riot decided she needed to live up to her name once again and freshened a few days early. 😅

I’m still not entirely sure how she managed that considering she was only bred once on a lead line, but at 10 PM she surprised us with a beautiful little doeling weighing just 2.9 lbs.

The funniest part? Riot did the whole thing in complete silence. I checked on her around 8 PM and she was just starting to lose her mucus plug and hadn’t bagged up much. I checked the camera again around 10 PM and… surprise! Baby goat already on the ground. Apparently she didn’t feel the need to notify management. 😂

Riot did have a second kid that was lost at some point during gestation and was delivered with the placenta. Thankfully, Riot is doing well and her little doeling has already had plenty of colostrum.

Now the important question… what should we name her? 🐐💕I have some ideas floating around.
