Tomorrow marks one year since my dad passed away.
Father’s Day is going to feel a little different this year.
Over the years, I brought Dad soaps and tallows from the homestead more times than I can count. As I’ve been thinking about him this week, I decided I’d like to honor his memory by putting together a basket of soaps to leave at the veterans pond for veterans to take and enjoy.
In his honor, I’ll also be doing a soap sale this weekend. It feels like a fitting way to celebrate a man who always supported what I was building here at the homestead.
A small act of kindness, a little remembrance, and a way to keep his memory close.

Good morning, Thursday! ☀️
We are finally back to sunshine, and hopefully it decides to stick around for a while. Mid-70s and sunny would be just about perfect!
Riot is doing great with milking so far. She still likes to throw in the occasional side-step, but at only 8 days fresh, I’ll give her a pass. 😆
Considering she kidded 5 days early and had single, she’s really not doing too bad at all. I’m excited to see what she does as she settles into her lactation.
And the best part? This is Hoedie’s first daughter to freshen! I can’t wait to get her on milk test and see what she can do.
How’s everyone else’s fresh does doing this year?

Turns out when you have dairy goats, “I’ll just make my own” becomes a dangerous phrase. 😂🐐
A friend gave us some homemade goat milk ricotta the other day, and it was so good she encouraged me to try making it myself.
So today’s adventure is homemade ricotta! It’s currently straining on the counter, and I’m trying very hard not to poke at it every five minutes. Wish me luck! 🧀✨
