πŸ‡πŸŒΉ 1994 Oregon Oaks Winner: Windy Queen πŸŒΉπŸ‡

We're taking a look back at a special day in Oregon racing history as Windy Queen captures the 1994 Oregon Oaks at Portland Meadows on March 5, 1994.

An Oregon-bred mare, Windy Queen was sired by Sharper One and out of Savanna's Lark (by Flying Lark). She was bred and owned by Don Jackson, making this Oaks victory an especially rewarding achievement for an owner-breeder.

The Oregon Oaks has long been a showcase for talented fillies bred and raced in the Pacific Northwest, and Windy Queen earned her place in that history with this memorable stakes victory.

Photos like this remind us of the horses, breeders, owners, and racing fans who helped shape Oregon's Thoroughbred industry. Congratulations to Don Jackson and all those connected to Windy Queen on this outstanding accomplishment!

πŸ‡πŸŒ² Oregon-Bred Spotlight: Tyonek πŸŒ²πŸ‡

This throwback winner's circle photo captures Tyonek after winning the Breeding to Race Purse at Portland Meadows on March 5, 1994.

An Oregon-bred gelding, Tyonek was sired by Sea Aglo and out of Compagnie (by Canadian Gil). He was bred by Robert N. Cameron and campaigned by owner Mary Ellen Cameron, with conditioning from trainer Rolland Fergason.

The Breeding to Race Purse program was designed to reward and promote Oregon breeding, making victories like this especially meaningful for the breeders and owners who invested in the state's racing industry. Tyonek's success serves as a reminder of the quality horses produced by Oregon breeders and the strong foundation they helped build for Thoroughbred racing in the Pacific Northwest.

πŸŒ§οΈπŸ‡ A Rainy Day Winner at Portland Meadows! πŸ‡πŸŒ§οΈ

Throwing it back to December 10, 1994, when Oregon-bred gelding Elgrayceono splashed home a winner at Portland Meadows on a day that looks as wet and muddy as they come!

Foaled on May 26, 1990, Elgrayceono was by Rebushthebearing and out of Flying KY (by Flying Lark). He was proudly bred in Oregon by Ray and Louise Boucher, whose breeding program contributed to the rich history of Oregon racing.

This photo perfectly captures the grit and determination that horse racing often demandsβ€”rain-soaked silks, a muddy track, and a hard-earned trip to the winner's circle. Days like these are part of what made Portland Meadows such a special place in Oregon racing history.

Do you remember Elgrayceono or racing at Portland Meadows on rainy winter afternoons? We'd love to hear your memories in the comments!

Portland Meadows, April 10, 1993... β˜”πŸ‡
The skies opened up over Portland Meadows, turning the track into a slick ribbon of mud and rainwater. But Oregon-bred gelding Toddy Bear didn’t seem to mind one bit.
By Red Crescent and out of Brite Beauty (by Holy War), Toddy Bear splashed home victorious in Race 8 for owners Wes Miller and Scott Walgren. Bred in Oregon by Richard E. Benschoter, this tough gelding proved that some horses simply thrive when the weather turns wild.
There’s something timeless about old win photos from rainy race days... soaked silks, muddy boots, and smiles that say every drop of rain was worth it. 🌧️
