Our May Skater of the Month is: Alondra Contreras! β›ΈοΈπŸ‘πŸ¦†

Alondra is a member of Learn to Skate USA, and is currently training in Academy 2 at Lakewood ICE. She began skating at age 4 and is continuing to grow her skills, confidence, and artistry on the ice at age 7, through consistent training and performance-based instruction.

Alondra is coached primarily by Coach Dianna DiMare, and also works with a dedicated support team both on and off the ice, including Aubrey Ignacio for off-ice training, Skye Koachway tor spin development, Aimee Cruz for mental wellness support, and Dianne Chapman through academy workshops, along with additional Academy coaches within her program.

Alondra has also performed in three competitions and over five ice skating recitals. She has a positive spirit, encourages other skaters during competition, and always steps onto the ice with a smile. She is a
determined skater both on and off the ice, and is a wonderful part off the Lakewood skating community. Congrats, Alondra!

It's an exciting day for ice sports in Southern California. Today, we are proud to announce our plans to bring ice back to Escondido!

Escondido Ice is a proposed three-sheet community ice facility at Kit Carson Regional Park that would expand access to ice sports including offering public skating, learn-to-skate programming, youth and adult hockey, and figure skating. Escondido Ice will be funded entirely by The Rinks Foundation - founded by philanthropists and owners of the San Diego Gulls, Henry and Susan Samueli.

Escondido Ice will help grow ice sports in Escondido and North San Diego County, and also attract major tournaments and events to the facility, similar to the experience at Great Park Ice in Irvine.

Over the last 10 years, demand for ice in Southern California has skyrocketed, while the number of community ice rinks in San Diego County has dwindled. Escondido Ice proposes to fill some of that gap.

Mao was visiting SoCal to throw out the first pitch at an Angels game, but that didn't stop her from doing her training work and taking time to say hello to her fans and our skaters in Lakewood.

We were so happy to meet you, Mao! Come back anytime! β›ΈοΈπŸ‡―πŸ‡΅πŸ§‘πŸ¦†

The 4th Annual Draft Tournament was held last weekend at - Irvine Inline! πŸ’

The event brought together over 280 female roller hockey players from all over North America, and celebrated the growth of the sport. The tournament saw four divisions (9U, 13U, Women’s Novice, and Women’s) compete. πŸ₯…

The draft style of the tournament allowed skaters to meet and play with people they normally would never get the chance to play against. The event was also used an official USA Roller Hockey scouting event, displaying world class talent that will soon represent Team USA at the 2026 World Championships in Asunción, Paraguay later this year. 🌎

Congratulations to all who participated! πŸ’πŸ¦†
