CONSUMER ALERT

The FDA recently banned Red #3 from our foods and beverages. But don’t roll out the celebrations just yet. Red 3 is not the king of artificial red coloring found in our processed foods and drinks. The predominant red dye is actually Red #40. That’s why the FDA was quick to pull Red 3 as soon as some pressure was applied on artificial ingredients in our foods.

Fruit Loops was at the center of the Red 3 needs banned stories that flowed through every news cycle for nearly two weeks. However, Red #3 is NOT found in Fruit Loops, Red 40 is.

I would challenge you to go to your grocery, flip the boxes, bags, cans and packages of processed foods and drinks that appear red in color. See for yourself what red coloring is there.
