The first look at SnowbirdBob’s Preliminary Winter 2026-2027 Snowfall Outlook is here! 🌨️

This early outlook is based on a combination of long-range model guidance, historical analogs, and the evolving El Niño pattern heading into winter. A stronger El Niño can often favor a more active southern storm track, which can increase opportunities for winter storms across the Southern Plains, Deep South, Tennessee Valley, and Southeast — especially when cold air is able to push south at the right time.

Over the past several weeks, we have been watching multiple long-range models showing a recurring signal of colder risks across the central and eastern United States, including the potential for a more favorable setup for winter storm opportunities in parts of the South and Southeast.

⚠️ Remember: This is only a preliminary outlook. A lot can change between now and winter, and snowfall is extremely dependent on storm tracks, timing, and how much cold air is available when storms develop.

The big questions heading forward:
❄️ Will this El Niño become one of the stronger events on record?
❄️ Will the southern storm track remain active?
❄️ Could parts of the South and Southeast see a more memorable winter?
