The humidity today is reaching a level that makes "outdoor activity" feel like a personal affront. It’s officially too hot to breathe, let alone get a decent ride in.

Since the road is off-limits for now, I’m pivoting to some indoor maintenance. I’m tackling the backlog of household tasks to keep the momentum going and stay in shape. It’s not the workout I planned, but it’s the work that needs doing.

I’m ready to get back out there as soon as the weather and I can reach an agreement. Until then, I’ll be productive in the shade.

Sabre has been part of our family for over 11 years.

He still wants to do everything he's always done. His body just can't keep up anymore.

Melanie and I have made the decision to let him go peacefully on September 24. I'd rather make that call while he still has good days than wait until there aren't any good days left.

September 24 is the plan, not a deadline. If he tells us he's ready before then, we'll listen.

Until then, he's still here. He's still Sabre. And we'll make sure he gets to enjoy being himself for as long as he can.

After the monsoon, yard work becomes priority number one.
Depending on who you ask.

Anthony says the grass needs mowing.
Sabre says the mower is clearly a mobile attention platform, and all operations must pause until the supervisor receives adequate petting.

The yard may be winning, but Sabre is running the crew. 🐾🌱

The bike and I have entered a temporary agreement.

I do not take it out into the rain.

It does not judge me for checking the weather app six times before breakfast.

This arrangement will remain in effect until the roads dry out or I lose patience.

Whichever happens first.

Summer break, according to Melanie.
Monsoon season, according to me.

I have not been riding much lately because every time I think about taking the bike out, the sky starts making threats.

Rain. Humidity. More rain. Roads that look dry until you are committed.

The bike is still here. I am still here. We are simply waiting for Kentucky to stop behaving like it has been assigned a water feature.

Until then, I am calling this monsoon season.

Sunday reset.

Church in the morning. Start the week over in the afternoon.

That usually means checking what held up, what needs cleaned, and what needs fixed before the next ride.

Bike gets looked over.
Legs report in.
Plan gets adjusted.

Nothing fancy.

Just reset and get ready to go again.

Bike check before the ride.

Rear mech needed a look. Derailleur was not quite where I wanted it, and that is not something I like finding out after I am already rolling.

Small adjustment. Quick check. Better shifting.

Nothing dramatic.

That is the point.

Handle the little things before they turn into roadside problems.

Nobody asked.

Went anyway.

That is usually how training works. No announcement needed. No perfect weather required. No one handing out trophies for getting miles in on a regular day.

Just get the bike ready, check the route, and go do the work.

Some rides are exciting.
Some are just necessary.

This one counts either way.

Kentucky has entered its annual phase of:

Rain for days.

Then immediately 95 degrees with enough humidity to swim through the air.

Apparently the weather believes cyclists should either grow gills or train inside.

I'll keep choosing the bike.

Just maybe with a little extra water and a few more shade breaks.

Ride safe out there.
