Our Upwards Sports registration went live today and we already have a waitlist for the 4th and 5th grade basketball teams. We are looking for 2 to 3 coaches, or assistant coaches, that would help this age group! If you are interested, please respond to this email and we will get you more information. Redding Christian School will be continuing the Ministry of the Upward Basketball / Cheerleading Program. We are very excited to announce the information you will need for the new season.

Below are the important dates for registration and volunteer sign up (for coaches).

WE WILL BE SENDING OUT THE LINK FOR COACHES TO COMPLETE NEXT WEEK, EITHER MONDAY OR TUESDAY, 9/8 OR 9/9.

Thank you all for making the Upward Program a successful Ministry in our community. Our Upward Team will continue to be on hand and helping with the transition to Redding Christian School. We are so blessed that they have chosen to continue the program.

Here are the details (I apologize for the long read, but it has all of the information you will need):

Hello Upward Basketball & Cheerleading Families!

It's that time of year again to start planning for our upcoming 2026 Basketball & Cheerleading season. The location will be the same, 2960 Hartnell Avenue. This location is now Redding Christian School.

Below are important details that you will want to thoroughly read through so that you understand how the volunteer & registration signup will go. (please read through to the end of the email).

Before we open up registration to everyone, just like we have done in the past, we are going to be offering an EARLY REGISTRATION option for ONLY those that volunteer as coach, assistant coach.

The LINK will be sent out either Monday or Tuesday, next week, the 8th or 9th to sign up as a coach/volunteer. You will have one week to sign up as a volunteer to guarantee your child a spot on a team (see more details below) -- Once you sign up as a coach volunteer, on Oct 14th you'll get a link to register your child to play (2 step process)

IMPORTANT DATES:

• Coach Signups will be Monday or Tuesday, 9/8 or 9/8 (those that sign up to volunteer, will get to register before everyone else to guarantee a spot on team for their child).

• Coach: Early Player Registration Tuesday, October 14th - Monday, October 20th

• OPEN REGISTRATION, Tuesday, October 21st at 10am

• Evaluation Date: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14TH, 6:00 TO 7:30 - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15th, 9am - 12:30pm (Depending on the 1st letter of your last name will determine your evaluation time). All players are required to attend evaluations.

• Basketball practices begin the week of January 5th (coach will provide day of the week and time, Practices are for 1 hour, either Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday at 5:30pm for Div 1: K5-1st, or 6:30pm for Div 2: 2nd - 3rd, or 7:30pm for Div 3: 4th - 5th grade). Cheer practices begin the week of January 5th. CHEER, your practices will ONLY be on Friday 5:30pm or 6:30pm (depending on age group)

• There will be a Cheer Camp, Saturday, 1/3/26 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

• Games will be 1 hour long, EVERY Saturday, starting Jan 24th - March 7th, starting at 9am – 5pm, the younger the player the earlier start time.

• Team / Player Picture Day: Saturday, January 31st (1 hour before your scheduled game time)

• Awards will be distributed in a different manner this year. After the last game of the season, the coaches and players will meet in the sanctuary to receive their awards and have a treat. Coaches will hand out the awards to their players.

Basketball & Cheer Registration Cost: $130 per player

Each Basketball player will receive a Jersey & T-Shirt, and end-of-season gift (shorts optional for an additional fee).

Each Cheerleader will receive a full cheer uniform, turtlenecks, pom poms, hair bow and end of season gift.

• 1 Practice per week (1 hour) on either a Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday (basketball), for CHEER your practices will ONLY be on Friday 5:30pm or 6:30pm (depending on age group)

FAQ:

How do we get the link to register for basketball? If you signed up to be a coach/assistant coach, I will email you a link on Tuesday, Oct. 14th so you can have early registration. Everyone else can sign up during OPEN REGISTRATION. I will email / post the link on Tuesday, October 21th at 10am. I will also post the link to register on our page. * INFORMATION FOR ALL COACH AND ASSISTANT COACH VOLUNTEERS - BACKGROUND CHECKS & SAFETY TRAINING:

All youth service organizations are required to have a background check and training for all volunteers, per California law AB506. All volunteers will be required to be fingerprinted through the State of California Department of Justice. IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY A VOLUNTEER FOR REDDING CHRISTIAN SCHOOL AND HAVE BEEN FINGERPRINTED, YOU HAVE ALREADY MET THESE REQUIREMENTS. We are working on coordinating a mobile fingerprinting service to be available on Evaluation Days.

Last weekend we celebrated the end of the 2025 Upward Basketball & Cheer season! Huge thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make this season a success. All of the hard work put in by the players, coaches, refs, maintenance staff, snack bar helpers was incredible & we are so thankful! 🙏🏼🏀📣
