About Our Troop

Charter Organization

Troop 586 is chartered by Riviera United Methodist Church (RUMC) in Redondo Beach. Our Charter Organization is the VFW Post 2828. Troop 586 was originally chartered in Torrance in 1967.

Troop Meetings:
Troop meetings are held every Monday, except holidays and Troop Committee meeting nights, at 7:15 p.m., sharp, at the Riviera United Methodist Church (RUMC) in the Fellowship Hall.

RUMC is located at 375 Palos Verdes Blvd in Redondo Beach.

Parent Meetings:
Parent meetings are generally held on the Monday following the monthly troop camp out or weekend activity from 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm., in the Fellowship Hall at RUMC (the same locations as the Troop Meetings). Updates on upcoming activities and other Scouting information are discussed at the Parent meetings. We encourage all parents to regularly attend.

Court of Honor:
The Court of Honor Ceremony is when the Scouts receive recognition for their rank advancements. In addition, any merit badges and special activities they were involved in are highlighted. The Scouts come dressed in their Class A uniforms (including beret and sash). Your entire family is invited to attend these ceremonies. They are held on Monday evenings twice a year in February and October at RUMC.

The Spring Court of Honor is referred to as the "Red Beret Dinner" At this annual event, we formally welcome the new boys into our troop. Light refreshments are served at the other ceremony.
