🎓 Senior in the Spotlight 🎓
A huge congratulations goes out to Emma L! The entire SDC community is so proud of you and your many accomplishments. Cheers to you Emma! ✨
Learn more about Emma and her plans after graduation:
My first year dancing at Spotlight was in 2015 in Pinocchio. I had tried a few other studios, but Spotlight was the first place that made me truly love dance and want to continue pursuing it.
One of my favorite parts of dancing at SDC has been the teachers and classmates I’ve met throughout my time here. I’ve loved dancing with them and spending time together at the studio, creating many memories that I’ll cherish.
Some of my favorite memories come from being a part of Performing Company. Being in Company has given me opportunities to perform in professional settings, connect with other dancers my age, and develop my own choreography. It is also where I met some of my closest friends.
My favorite SDC show has to be Ferngully. It was one of the most memorable for me because of my role in the show and all the backstage moments I shared with my friends.
One thing I’ve learned at Spotlight is how to stay open and flexible, both as dancer, and as a person. Being exposed to many different styles has pushed me to try new things and trust myself even when it feels unfamiliar or challenging. Whether it’s learning a new acro lift or adjusting to a choreography change, Spotlight has taught me to go with the flow.
Something I will never forget about SDC is the community. Spotlight has grown to feel like a family to me, and the teachers have been so supportive and caring throughout the years, some who have literally watched me grow up. The friendships I’ve made here mean so much. I love getting to share time with people who also love dance.
After I graduate, I will be attending the University of Washington where I plan on double majoring in dance and physiology. I hope to pursue dance and choreography professionally while also working to get my doctorate in physical therapy.

🎓Senior in the Spotlight! Congratulations to Sarah T on behalf of your entire SDC Family! ✨ We are all so incredibly proud of you 💕
Read on to learn more about Sarah, her time at SDC, and her plans after graduating
I started dancing at SDC in 2012 my first show was “Snow White”.
What I have enjoyed most about dancing at SDC is the people and the community I have been a part of. I have loved being able to perform with these great people and spend so much time doing what I love together with them.
Some of my favorite memories are hanging out with my friends backstage and getting ready amid the chaos. I also cherish the memories from class, like in my old, close-knit acro class and my (always fun) jazz class. Overall, I would say my favorite show was “Robin Hood” with all my old friends in it.
I have learned perseverance from dance. It has taught me that even if I’m not good at something at first If I dedicate myself, I can be better. Even If I am not the best in the room I can learn and grow to be able to match everyone. Even if I doubt myself, I know that others around me will work to help lift me up (physically and mentally).
What I will never forget about being an SDC family member is the feeling during show season. The excitement in the air mixing with the smell of hairspray. The laughter of everyone backstage and the long nights are truly a blessing. I will never forget how much I love the people that made it so much fun.
After SDC and graduating high school, I plan to go to the University of Idaho to study film production.
