What an amazing weekend.
Professor Matt Strack shared a wealth of knowledge, from technical details to concepts that will impact our training for years to come. The mats were packed, the energy was high, and our students left with new tools to improve their jiu-jitsu.
We’re grateful for everyone who came out and helped make this seminar a success. Events like this are what make our academy special.
Enjoy some highlights from the weekend!

A huge thank you to Professor Matt Strack for an incredible weekend of learning.
Our team had the opportunity to spend two days sharpening technique, exploring new concepts, and growing together on the mats. Seminars like these remind us that there is always another level to reach.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make it such a great event. We’re proud of the culture and community we’re building together.
👻 Ghost in the Dojo 👻
Our Porcupines class (ages 4–6) had a blast playing Ghost in the Dojo today! Kids worked on grips, movement, teamwork, and listening skills while having tons of fun. 💪🤝
Jiu-Jitsu at this age helps build confidence, coordination, self-defense skills, and great character — all through play and movement.
Love seeing this class grow and our coaches pouring into these kids every week 🙌
Crucible 2 was one for the books 🔥
This weekend we put our students through real scenario-based self-defense situations—and they showed up in a big way. The turnout was incredible, the energy was high, and the grit on the mats was undeniable. This is what growth looks like.
Huge congratulations to everyone who earned a belt promotion on Saturday 👊 Well deserved and hard fought. Proud of this team and the work they continue to put in every day.
More to come… 💥

March & April at SOMA Jiu-Jitsu were all about Character Development: Self-Control (自制 / Jisei).
We challenged our students to practice self-control in their everyday lives—not just on the mats, but at home, at school, and with their families. The results were incredible.
We saw students:
• Choose to share—even when they didn’t have to. One student had ice cream and offered it to everyone without being asked.
• Make healthier choices by eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking more water, and cutting back on sugary drinks.
• Show discipline by limiting electronics and screen time.
• Practice respect by letting mom and dad talk in the car without interrupting.
• Listen to their bodies—like one student who stopped eating a treat when he felt full.
• Put others first by giving siblings time on the trampoline without complaining.
• Take ownership of their mornings by waking up for school without being asked.
Because of their hard work and commitment, those who completed their character development earned a spot at our Kung Fu Panda Movie Night 🐼🎬 — and we had an amazing turnout!
We’re proud of the growth we’re seeing in these students. Self-control is a lifelong skill, and they’re building it one choice at a time.

Midday and the mats are FULL. 🔥
Our noon class is proof—you’re not too busy to train. With a flexible schedule and strong attendance right in the middle of the day, there’s always a time that works for you.
Right now, the focus is sharp: competition prep.
High pace rounds, intentional drilling, and a room full of people pushing each other to the next level.
If you’ve been waiting for the “perfect time” to start… this is it.
No excuses. Just progress. 👊
DODGEBALL DOJO WAS A BLAST! 🥋🔥
Saturday was full of laughs, teamwork, and nonstop fun. It was awesome seeing our students come together and just enjoy being kids.
But Dodgeball Dojo isn’t just about dodgeball — it’s something our students earn.
To attend, they practiced their jiu-jitsu at home and worked on the character attribute of Compassion (仁 – Jin) from the samurai code of Bushido.
Over the last two months, here’s what that looked like in real life:
• One student apologized after having an argument with her brother.
• Another asked her mom to start bringing extra food to school for a friend who often goes without.
• A teacher shared that one of our students noticed a classmate struggling academically and chose to quietly help him after finishing her own work instead of taking free time.
• One student reached out to a family member who recently received a difficult medical diagnosis.
• Another helped his pregnant mom grocery shop and push the cart because she hasn’t been feeling well.
This is the kind of work that inspires us.
We are incredibly proud of these kids — not just for how they perform on the mats, but for who they are becoming off of them.
Jiu-jitsu builds confidence and self-defense skills. But more importantly, it sharpens character. It teaches leadership. It builds compassion.
And this group is living proof that what we practice on the mats carries into real life. 💛🥋
From Juniors to Youth to Adults 🥋
This week’s seminar with Professor Jared Emfield showed just how much our team has grown.
Not just in size — but in the quality of people on the mats. Hard-working, respectful, and committed to getting better together.
Proud of this team. 👊
🔥 JiuJitsu Convergence was NEXT LEVEL 🔥
This past Saturday we brought 3 teams together under one roof and spent hours sparring, learning, and pushing each other. No egos—just great rolls, different styles, and a shared love for Jiu Jitsu.
Events like this are exactly why the Jiu Jitsu community is special. Iron sharpens iron, and everyone left better than they arrived. Huge respect and gratitude to all the teams and athletes who showed up and brought the energy. 🙏
This won’t be the last one… 👀
More convergence to come.
