Incredibly proud of where these operators have come after 9 months of training, some of it in the snow, blistering heat and in the dark at night in tiny rock crevasses. Our head instructor, Dana, teaching pickoffs at last month’s Rope Master Course (RMC). This technique is used to rescue a stuck or injured roper. Essentially you attach the person to you, unweight their system, and transfer them onto your system or a second system you brought with you to lower them. If the distance to the top isn’t that great, then team members on top can raise both of you back up. In the RMC, we use devices like the Rock Exotica Totem, rope grabs like the Ropeman 2, Petzl RollClip Carabiner, Purcell Prusik, and our own Phantom® Personal Haul Kit.
