Season is in full swing, with EF athletes representing us locally, around the country, and across the globe! Highlights from this past weekend:

🫡🎖️ Salute to the Military Tri in Warrenton, VA:
- Rocco Saracina from Fairfax with the overall win in rainy conditions.🥇
- 17-year-old Fynn Wottawah in 2nd overall (getting closer every year to his goal of beating Coach Rocco, and over 8 MINUTES ahead of 3rd place)!🥈
- John Pedersen from Prince William placed 5th.
- Henry Wottawah won the 11-15 youth race by 2:42 over 2nd place!🥇
- C. Evans leading a crew from Hampton Roads with a big victory in the 6-10 youth race🥇, and Paige Biagi also with a strong showing, placing 3rd in her age group.🥉

🇵🇱 Europe Triathlon Cup | Olsztyn, Poland: Isaac Lamprecht raced the Elite Race. He stays there another week to race in Rzeszow next!

🇧🇲🏃🏻🏃🏽‍♀️Bermuda Half Marathon Derby: Luca Bortoli won the 2-person relay event, and Elena Bortoli earned Bronze in the 4-person relay. Elena raced again on Sunday in a CARIFTA Qualifier; she had an amazing race and finished 2nd!

🛝💦 Henry🥇, Timothy🥉, and Wilhelmina Renno🥇 enjoyed the best finish line they’ve ever experienced, zooming onto a gigantic slip’n’slide after the Mount Sequoyah Triathlon in Fayetteville, Arkansas. All 3 landed on the podium, with Henry breaking the course record by 2:53.

🏆We had a group of athletes race the Middle School Outdoor State Champs, with some hot times and big PRs!⏱️

1600 Girls:
- Jane Oxenreiter - 8th, 5:43
- Hayden Harvey - 14th, 5:47 (top 5th grader, big PR)
- Kate Thurman - 6:55, (PR)

1600 Boys:
- Zern Small - 6th, 4:52
- Auggie Hooks - 10th, 4:56 (matched PR)
- Beckett Greiner - 5:31, (PR)
- Dylan Oklopcic - 5:37

800 Boys:
- Tristan Waterworth - 6th, 2:11
- Zern Small - 18th, 2:18
- Beckett Greiner - 2:37 (PR)

400 Boys:
- Tristan Waterworth - 0:57.59
- Zander Small - 1:00.49
- Dylan Oklopcic - 1:07.28 (PR)

3200 Girls:
- Laya Blackwell - 13:18 (PR)

Remember: those carbs aren’t doing you any favors on your workouts if you don’t eat them!

The more you fuel your workouts, the stronger you perform AND the faster you recover. The faster you recover, the faster you can get back to stacking bricks and putting down good workouts. Is a positive feedback loop that you CAN control. Don’t make things harder for yourself by not fueling the work you’re doing. And if you think you can be having more carbs during your workouts, the answer is probably YOU CAN!

In a study published in the Journal of Sports Science & Medicine, researchers explored how a high-intensity warm-up protocol impacted 5000m performance in trained long-distance runners. The study involved 13 male runners who performed two 5000m timed trials. Before each trial, participants completed two different warm-ups:

1. High-intensity warm-up including 1 x 500m run at 70% of the running intensity and 3 x 250 m at 100% of their running intensity.

2. Low-intensity warm-up including 1 x 500m run at 70% of the running intensity and 3 x 250m runs at 70% of the running intensity.

The runners were about 6sec faster after the high-intensity warm up. Why? Because high intensity included in a warm up raises lactate levels pre-race which improves our body’s ability to clear lactate once the race starts.

We need intensity in our warm ups - this may be the secret to your next PR.

This crew had a tremendous day at the autismsocietycentralva 5k with Ellie Harlow breaking the tape to win the overall (male and female) with a time of 17:47 followed by Caden Browning (17:48), Oliver Harlow (3rd male - 18:24), and Re*****on Freeman (2nd female - 19:11). Strong race also from Oliver Foster and Laya Blackwell!

Great job team!!

Congrats to Lauren Dain for completing her FIRST half-distance triathlon at Ironman Chattanooga 70.3 this past weekend in the wicked heat. Lauren has come so far working with us, and we couldn't be more proud! Here's what she said about her favorite parts of the day:

"My favorite parts were the swim and proving to myself that I can do hard things! I love how much the athletes support each other and how the city residents come to cheer on all the participants."
