✨Welcome back to ! ✨
💜Topic: Universal Love
💜 Ya’ll, I know it’s not Thursday but to be honest, this week was really hard. I needed connection, grounding, and to truly be present for a number of reasons. I hope you also recognize when you need to take space.
💜 Our love series continues this week with universal love. This adapted compassion meditation is how I typically close my yoga classes.
💜Compassion has been a topic of many of my discussions lately. I’ve lost count of how many signs I’ve seen saying “we are all going through something so please be kind.” It is so needed and a compassion meditation holds many benefits:
✨Reduced heart rate
✨Reduced stress
✨Reduced anger
✨Increased sense of community
✨Increased ability to focus
To name a few!
💜
A typical compassion meditation uses repetitive phrases to:
1️⃣Accept compassion and love from others
2️⃣ Send compassion and love to those we are close to
3️⃣ Send compassion and love to those we have differences or strained relationships
4️⃣ Send compassion and love to all
💜 The compassion meditation in these slides is one I use to close a group yoga class or yoga therapy session to encourage yoga off the mat.
💜
Each Thursday (ish) you get perspectives from the Hosts on different topics! Follow along by checking out cohost posts and following the hashtag!

May all beings feel loved and love others. May all beings unite in lightness and darkness. There is a photo on each slide of Liz practicing asana outside.

🎨 💐 Anyone else getting vibes from this project?
💜 I cut out a stencil using a clip art mason jar
💜 Each client chose their paint color and used circular sponge brushes to paint the stencil onto a canvas board
💜 Clients arranged artificial flowers and I helped hot glue them to the canvas board!
💜 Many chose a fall color scheme of browns, reds, and oranges! Sunflowers looked great!

This activity was great for:
💜Fine motor skills
💜Motor planning
💜Increasing self esteem by accomplishing a final product
💜Creativity with mixed media
💜Decision making
💜 Art Education

🌟 Adaptive Tip!! 🌟
Masking Tape can be used to make the paint brushes thicker and more ergonomic!

At the end of each yoga class I close with this compassion meditation.
💜
May all beings feel happy and safe.
May all beings feel free to breathe and loved.
May we each feel empowered to unite in lightness and in darkness.
💜
The most common question I get is, “What do you mean by uniting in darkness?”
💜
This is it. This is darkness and we need to unite. Too many black lives are taken because they are not free to breathe. All beings are not feeling happy, safe, or free to breathe until black lives matter. The trauma response will look different in everyone and we need advocacy, policy change, outrage, and community rebuild.
💜
White people- work on your shadow side. Educate yourself. Don’t add that burden to POC. Take a long look at your biases and privilege and dismantle them. Find ways to contribute to the greater community. There is generational trauma that needs to be healed. This is your work to do.
