The AC broke. People get angry when they’re hot. They get angry when things aren’t in the control of people who are in control. The AC doesn’t care what you think. The AC breaks and has zero regard for you. It says “nope” and we all must wait til the AC whisperers do their whispering.

So my manager made a wild call. Combine two of the exact same classes going in at two different locations. Bring everyone to the cool studio. It felt wild. It felt scary. Who’s about to be so mad they never return? Will my instructors wig out over a sudden change? Will this work? Will it flop?

Our world is the most unforgiving it’s ever been. A perfect track record is obliterated by a minor transgression. And here we all are, none of us knowing what’s going on but still, we demand the other clueless people around us know the exact plan.

So Sarah called it. I followed her lead. We combined the classes with no team teach plan. At least it’s better than my clients sweating. And what happened as a result was THE EXACT REASON that Butter & Filth is Butter & Filth.

The energy was electric. The two teachers riffed, led their classes, responses to energy. Their class followed. The shy ones broke out of their shell. The people made shapes with their bodies. All on the fly. No plan.

This is the Creative Erotic at play. This is the ability to walk into a room, connect with a co teacher, a student, an idea. And you labor that idea into reality through sheer power to build a better world, a better class, something better.

When I see and feel the energy I felt tonight and witnessed the creativity from these teachers, the intuition from Sarah, I know why we’re the best. I have zero question. What we have here is special.

And it’s special because we don’t buy into perfection. Or getting it right all the time. Or predictable output. We’re special because of how we think, the grace we show, the intuition we follow. Butter & Filth is second to none because of our adaptive ways and ability to bring our students into beautiful possibilities on the fly.

What would happened if we took a leap of faith and chose to value that which resists a measurable outcome? Certainly, we have need for metrics, measurements, and processes. This is a given. But my question, is what woild our world look like, and how would we change ourselves, our pleasure, our spirits, for the better if we placed the same emphasis on the immeasurable as we do the measurable?

What if we were equally as proud of that beautiful smelling flower as we were about the promotion we got?

What if we proudly announced getting lost in the groove of our dance as we did getting the pole trick we’ve been after for months?

Theres a lot of oppositional rhetoric that tells us we need to fully abandon metric and measurable outcome. I don’t believe this. My thinking is that we should lift up, elevate, and speak the subjective or immeasurable with the same reverence.

It’s not about one being better than the other. Focusing only on accomplishment and metrics makes us dull. Focusing only on the subjective makes us selfish. Neither works long term when left alone by itself.

What would your life look like today if you elevated the soft, immeasurable, subjective? Is it that you’re overwhelmed with life? Or is it that you’re trained to only value output?

You can do both. You can be the first woman in your family to buy a house. You can also be the one that smells her flower bushes in the spring time for hours that she planted on that property.

I very thing I’m had become so fake, so curated, and so optimized that we’ve started using whole new words and language to describe the act of being a human being: cringe, awky, ooop!

And here’s the thing: I know that we are like cut diamonds. We do form under pressure and there are facets to us. The daughter you is not the same as the professional worker you. Those two you’s have different needs. But we’ve abandoned that and have become copies of ourselves pressed into plastic molds.

If everything around you is fake from the persona you put on to the videos you watch to s**t you pretend to like, that’s ok, everyone’s doing it. If you’d like to break out of the loop, that’s what we’re here for.

It means so much to me to craft a place where efficiency, polishedness and optimization can be left at the door along with male centered goals (to be thin, young, chosen) in favor of taking the time you need to think about what YOU want first.

This is valuable and irreplaceable.
