The current store location in Ridgway, Pennsylvania was the home of Love's Canoe Rentals and Sales for over 30 years. We're located in the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds re

Parker Dam State Park

The ice skating rink is back open. Hopefully we will get a couple of weeks of skating before the weather changes again. The rink is a little rough, but should improve with the colder weather allowing us to flood it and smooth things out this coming week.
The Friends of Parker Dam are planning on renting skates on Friday evening 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and again on Saturday & Sunday afternoons from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Tired of shoveling, man invents bicycle snow plow

We like his style!! A man combined his love of bike riding with his hatred of shoveling snow and came up with an ingenious invention: a bicycle snow plow.

Congrats to our friends at Allegheny Outfitters! Looks like this is going to be an awesome space!

Folks, if you haven't heard, AO is combining our livery and shop space downtown in an old manufacturing facility right on the Allegheny River. We've got a ways to go, but thought we'd give everyone a peek at progress and answer a few questions we've been fielding lately.

Why are you moving? One of our biggest obstacles over the years has been that thousands of people walk through our tiny hut every summer at the livery, and only a fraction make it into our brick and mortar shop. Not to mention the very small, uncomfortable, crowded livery space; and dozens of back-and-forth trips we make daily between the two locations to grab this and that.

What will the new AO store be like? Our new space gives us double the floor space, a conference room (workshops!), office, shipping station, storage/repair space for all our canoes and kayaks, and brings a longtime dream of ours to fruition - our trip planning center. (You'll be hearing more about this soon!) Most importantly, it'll give us a much more efficient outfitter/shop operation under one roof resulting in a better experience for all of you!

Where is the building at with construction and when do you plan to move in? The top picture is almost three years ago - the first time we set foot in the space. The bottom is two days ago, after weeks of demo, sandblasting and painting. Tomorrow our build-out begins! We still have several weeks to go, but we're shooting for a late spring opening.

I heard there are other exciting things happening at that old manufacturing building - is that true? Yes! We're not the only local grassroots small business that's been workin' hard to make our community a better place to live and visit. We'll be sharing the same roof with Warren's first brewery, and first indoor climbing gym! (These are, indeed, exciting times in Warren, PA!!)

Are you so excited? We are! As a small, veteran-owned, independent outfitter and outdoors store, this is an enormous leap for us to combine the two, and something we've been working toward for years. To say we're excited would be a major understatement. We're not sure how to express how much we appreciate the many partnerships, supporters, customers and AO team members that have helped us get to this point!

We'll have more updates soon. In the meantime, you'll find us where we've been the last seven years at our shop. We hope to see you this Saturday at our 5th Annual Paddle Happy event!

It is with heavy heart that we report the passing of Dave Love. Dave was the original owner of Love's Canoe Rental and Sales, which existed at the CSO location for 30+ years prior to CSO. Dave was also a key component in the expansion of outdoor recreational opportunities in our region. He was instrumental in the development of the Clarion-Little Toby Rail Trail and the Laurel Mill cross-country ski trail system. Dave was the type of guy that really grabbed life by the horns and lived life one adventure after another.

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” -Henry David Thoreau

Dear CSO Friends,

Nearly a decade ago, we embarked on a journey that would take our love and passion for outdoor recreation and turn that into what would become CSO. This journey would take us from our CSO beginnings in Canon City, Colorado to our current location in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. During this journey, we would also expand beyond Ridgway to include bike rentals at the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce & Artisan Center and the Outpost at Sinnemahoning State Park. Along the way we've met thousands of customers that we were able to share our love and passion for outdoor recreation with. Many of those customers would become friends. This journey certainly had its low points, which included the flooding event in 2014 that devastated CSO and the town of Ridgway. However, it also had some high points, which included being recognized as The PA Wilds small business of the year. Through it all, the highs and lows, CSO remained committed to our roots, which was to simply share our love for outdoor adventure.

Now, a decade later, we have come to another junction in the trail. The primary trail has been the general northern heading for CSO. We have decided that it is time for us to choose the spur trail that will take us in another direction. A direction that will allow us to step away from CSO and take our personal lives in a different direction. Stepping away from CSO will certainly not come without a tremendous amount of sadness. However, we are very grateful for the wonderful people that we have met and the friendships that CSO has fostered. We are also thankful for everyone that had welcomed us into their community.

We would also like to recognize some of the others that have also worked tirelessly to promote outdoor recreation. This includes; PA Great Outdoors, PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship, Ridgway Heritage Council, Ridgway-Elk County Chamber Of Commerce, Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau, Tricounty Rails To Trails, and Elk Country Visitor Center to name a few. These organizations, and many others like them, have really put this region on the map as a destination for outdoor recreation and we wish you much continued success and continued growth in the region's outdoor opportunities.

We would also like to recognize the wonderful staff that have become a part of the CSO family over the years. We have watched you all continue on your own personal journeys in life and it has been a pleasure working with you all. We would like to say thanks for all of your support, hard work, and dedication to CSO.

There are many things that we could continue saying and many people, organizations, and agencies that we would like to thank, but we do realize that this has to come to an end at some point. So, with this announcement, CSO will be closing our doors permanently following the Holiday season. Please check for one final announcement in the near future where we post our store hours and special sales.

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts,
See you on the trails,
Steve, Miranda and Scout

Registration is now available for the Ridgway Turkey Trot. There is a new event this year, which is the 5K Pump & Run (weight lifting and running). If lifting isn't your thing, there is also a 5K and half-marathon run to choose from. Should be fun. Hope to see you there

It has come to that time of the year again where we say "happy trails" and close our doors for the season. So, CSO is now closed. We would like to thank all of you for a wonderful spring and summer season. Best wishes to you all and see you on the trails.

The CSO bike shop just finished building two new Cannondale road bikes for customers. Not a bad way to finish out the season. Pictured left is the 2018 Cannondale CAAD Optimo and pictured right is the 2018 Cannondale Synapse Carbon. Enjoy the new rides guys. May the wind always be at your back. See you out there.

“One final paragraph of advice: do not burn yourselves out. Be as I am — a reluctant enthusiast… a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much; I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men and women with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this; You will outlive the bastards.”
- Edward Abbey

CSO goes atlatl throwing at the 2018 Elk Expo

A little video of CSO owner, Steve, throwing the atlatl (an ancient type of spear throwing device) and hitting the mastodon target at the Elk Expo last weekend. Maybe Steve could have survived in the wild 10,000 years ago.

With summer winding down, the CSO bike repair shop is now CLOSED FOR THE SEASON. However, if you need a quick repair or adjustment, please feel free to send us a message or email. We'll try to accommodate if we can. We'd also like to say "Thank You" to all of our wonderful customers that visited our shop this season. Happy riding and see you on the trails.

Just a reminder that the CSO shop in Ridgway will now be closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays. We will remain open Thursday through Sunday from 9am to 6pm for the rest of the month and Labor Day Weekend. 08/16/2018
