Optimal health and wellness begins with self-care. That includes caring for the body and your mind too!

Ever wonder if you’re the weird one here? (Just us…? 😆)⁠

When it comes to coping mechanisms, there are a ton of options to choose from (albeit some healthier than others).⁠

So what pops into your mind immediately when you hear “self-care strategies”? Possibly something along the lines of a massage or meditation?⁠

What happens when your strategies aren’t like those? It can feel like they’re not as valid of a solution (even if they work just fine for you).⁠

Here are 10 coping mechanisms that are totally normal — even if you don’t hear people talking about them as much.⁠

🛌 Taking a nap (wrapped in ALL the fuzzy blankets).⁠

🎶 Listening to your favorite song again & again... and again & again.⁠

🛁 Taking a hot shower or bath.⁠

📷 Looking through old photos & mementos that remind you of people, places, & things that bring you joy.⁠

👒 Dressing up in a favorite outfit to hang out on the couch, or putting on a full face of makeup when you’re not going anywhere, just to give yourself a little boost.⁠

😭 Watching sad movies or listening to sad songs purely because you know you need a good cry — and then having that good cry.⁠

💃 Having a solo dance party. ⁠

🐕 Talking to — or reading aloud to — your pet.⁠

🚗 Going for a drive w/ no destination in mind.⁠

🚫 Setting boundaries & saying “no” — whether with coworkers, family, or friends. ⁠

I’ve never been the type to be a new year new New bu****it.
Everyday can be a beginning for anything! With that said, I do think the wintertime is a great time to start something new or create goals, set intentions or whatever you’d like to call it!

What is self-care and why is it important? 

Self-care is focusing on simple habits or routines that promote and improve your physical, mental, and emotional health.

“When self-care is regularly practiced, the benefits are broad and have even been linked to positive health outcomes such as reduced stress, improved immune system, increased productivity, and higher self-esteem.” - Wellness Council of America. 

Self-care isn’t selfish - it’s like putting on your oxygen mask first on a plane before you help others. 

Here’s the tricky part…

It’s those who think they don’t have time for self-care that need it the most.  

The good news is that self-care can be quite simple, and it can be incorporated into your life in just a few minutes each day.

When they see you as a strong woman, they think that you do not need anything or anyone, you can bear everything and will overcome whatever happens. That you do not mind being listened to, cared for or pampered.

When they see you as a strong woman, they just look for you to help them carry their crosses. They talk to you and they think you do not need to be heard.

A strong woman is not asked if she is tired, suffering or falling, if she has anxiety or fear. The important thing is that she is always there: a lighthouse in the fog or a rock in the middle of the sea.

The strong woman is not forgiven anything. If she loses control, she becomes weak. If she loses her temper, she becomes hysterical.

When the strong woman disappears a minute, it is immediately noticeable, but when she is there, her presence is usual.

But the strength that is needed every day, to be that kind of woman, does not matter to anyone.

Honor, recognize, respect and thank the strong women in your life, because they also need to be pampered, loved and feel that they can rest in you.
