What not to eat Wednesday! Worst food #2 - Doughnuts! The famed Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut has 210 calories and 13 grams of fat, 6 grams saturated fat. This means quarter of the recommended daily intake (based on a 2,000 cal diet) for fats is all in one doughnut! Definitely not a heart healthy option!Opt for oatmeal sweetened with fruit or if you must have the bread, a bran muffin.

What not to eat Wednesday! Worst food for you #1:Potato Chips
They may satisfy your need for a crunchy and salty snack, but a 1oz bag of potato chips has 160 calories and 10 grams of fat! Keep in mind that a 1oz serving is only about 15 chips. Finish a large bag of potato chips in one week and you've added 1,280 calories and 80g of fat to your diet! Possible substitues: light popcorn without added butter, rice cakes, pistachos or dry roasted edamame.

Summer may be over, but grilling and fresh fruit are still in season and the two go together perfectly! Next time you grill, throw some sliced nectarines on. They are paired nicely with grilled chicken or on top of a bed of greens to add some tang to your salad.
And besides the flavor, the best part is:
4 oz of chicken breast, 2 cups of greens a whole grilled nectarine, and a drizzle of light poppyseed dressing provides 36oz of protein and only 350 calories!

It's August, which means is green chile roasting time in New Mexico. Green chilies are typically known for their flavor and heat, but the nutritional benefits are often overlooked.

A single raw green chile contains 6 times more Vitamin C than an average sized orange! Green chile is also a good source of the antioxidant beta-carotene, vitamins A, B and E, and iron and potassium. And that's not to mention that the "heat" sparks the metabolism allowing you to burn more calories.

Green chile is a New Mexican food staple that you can indulge in healthily so eat up!

Anyone go hunting this fall? Elk meat is very lean. A 1oz serving of ground elk has only 49 calories, 2.5g fat, and 6 g of protein. For comparison, 1 oz of 85% lean ground beef has 60 calories, 4.2 g fat and 5 g of protein.
