🚨 VIRTUAL KIDNAPPING SCAM ALERT 🚨

Callers are falsely claiming that a juvenile family member has been kidnapped. The caller may claim to be associated with a cartel, demand money, direct the recipient to a local Walmart, or repeatedly change the meeting location before instructing the recipient to purchase a prepaid card. A distressed voice may also be heard during the call.

The family members involved in the reported incidents were independently located and confirmed safe.

❌ Do not send money, purchase prepaid cards, or meet the caller.
📱 Contact your loved one directly.
☎️ Report the call to law enforcement immediately.

The EMTs.
The paramedics.
The firefighters.
The police officers.
The dispatchers.
The emergency room teams.

They meet people on the worst days of their lives.

Car accidents.
Heart attacks.
Fires.
Missing children.
Calls no family ever wants to make.

They miss dinners.
Birthdays.
Holidays.
Bedtimes with their own kids.

Because someone else’s emergency doesn’t care what day it is.

You might only know them for 10 minutes.

But those 10 minutes might be the reason you get the rest of your life.

Today is for the ones who answer the call.

Extreme heat warnings have been expanded to include SW IL as well. It will remain hot for another day across the northern half and another 2 days southern half.

A brief "cooldown" Sunday-Monday with upper 80s to mid 90s, then upper 90s again midweek next week.

The heat is locked in folks, no relief in sight or signs of fall.

Happy National Volunteer Firefighter Day.

What does a volunteer firefighter look like?
It looks like your mailman. Your kid’s coach. The person bagging your groceries.

It looks like a spouse re-heating dinner at 11pm.
It looks like a boss covering a shift, no questions asked.
It looks like neighboring departments showing up to help, no questions asked.
On National Volunteer Firefighter Day, we’re grateful for the ripple effect. One person says “yes” to serving, and a whole community says “we’ve got you.”

Rio Fire, mutual aid partners, and every person & family behind them — we see you. We need you. We thank you. Small towns don’t survive without people like you.
