We start July 8 with the roots of Raqs Sharqi dance as it was done by Awalem in Cairo as they performed in their sponsor’s homes, for weddings and festivities! Then in the newly developed “Sala” (small theaters) dancers worked with dancers outside their own groups and were influenced, developing the fusion that became “Raqs Sharqi” (Arabic for “Dance of the East”.�
