It was a fun last few weeks of the 2026 racing season.
I dealt with health issues early this year which made it hard to travel. I lost 30lbs and could barely get out of bed some days. Severe stomach gastritis and a cancerous polyp found in my colon. Thankfully, the polyp was removed in May and nothing spread throughout my GI system. I have been clear since. Because of this we got a late start on getting the racecar ready for the weekends.
Being able to finally get on track in late August felt like a win in of itself. Getting a top 10 in just my second start ever in an IMCA Modified was a great accomplishment.
Unfortunately, at Winston Speedway, I took the opportunity to get some extra laps under my belt and made a mistake. The track was similar, hooked up and fast. I got too close to the wall on entry into turn 1 and charged the corner hard to see what the car had. I slapped the wail tail first where it then straightened me out, got into the fluff by the wall and it went straight into the wall RF first. It was my mistake and it's all apart of learning.
The bright side is, I'm not afraid to put the throttle down. Next time however, I have a better idea on how much the tail swings when setting the car into the corner.
The chassis however, is not bent and the rear end didn't move. New upper and lower ball joints, a new bolt for the tie rod spindle bracket, a new RF wheel, straightened out body and deck panels and The Midnight Express would be ready to get back on the track.
While the 5th Annual Katie Hutson race at Mt. Pleasant Speedway has been rescheduled to October 3rd, we have decided that it's in our best interest to wait until 2027 to hit the track again.
This off-season is going to be about taking care of the little things. While fixing the car is not difficult, the other little things that we want to accomplish will take some time. These little details are where potential advantages can come from and it's important that we focus on those.
For the 2027 Off-Season we will be turning to Sim Racing while we prepare for 2027. You can catch me streaming live on Facebook, YouTube and Twitch on iRacing! I will also be playing a lot of American and Euro Truck Sim, Hell Let Loose and of course when it comes out, GTA VI.
I will be participating in the O'Leary Racing Productions Street Stock Series. The first race will be on Friday, November 13th at the Slinger Super Speedway and I will be streaming live!
