This is a good chart to study. Our friend Joseph Tenney of the Ohio Deer Trackers put this together throughout the tracking season with input from other Ohio Trackers. The red pins were dead and recovered deer. The green pins were confirmed alive. The blue pins were undetermined, the white pins were tracked and required a follow up shot.
This kind of science doesnโt lie.

Due to family and work obligations, Genny and I will be available for tracking on a limited basis for the 2022 season. If you contact me and I donโt get back to you I apologize itโs just because I am unavailable at that time. For the best results in finding an available tracker, please contact the Deer Search NY hotline. We are looking forward to getting out and tracking when we are available itโs just going to be limited this year is all.
Good luck and shoot straight ๐ฆ๐ค๐ป๐ฏ

TRUE STORY: When you know you gut shot your deer and back out and call us instead of grid searching for 8 hours, it greatly increases your chances of recovery. As experienced hunters, we know when our shots are marginal - accidents happen. Your next decision is what will make or break your chances of recovery. This hunter knew his shot was a little back and center. He backed out, called me and it was decided we would go in around the 9 hour mark. I was fairly sure by our conversation he had not only hit gut but also liver which is why we went in around the 9 hour mark. Genny made short work of this track which ended with a successful find at ~200 yards. Congratulations on a beautiful buck ๐ค๐ป๐บ๐ธ๐ฆโ๐ป๐ถ

Received a call this morning from a hunter who wasnโt sure where exactly he hit this buck. Slightly quartering away at 25 yards. Had spotty blood for the first 50 yards, one spot with a pool of blood where deer had been standing, then nothing. After the small pool of blood was a flooded swamp area that was impassible by me (although Genny was indicating wanting to cross). Hunter shot the buck at 7am and we started the track at 3:15pm. We walked around the flooded swamp and Genny worked the shoreline where she eventually picked the track back up. 880 total yards and we were at the buck. Buck was still alive and needed to be put down (buck was hit in the hind quarter). Very wise decision on the hunters behalf to back out and call me to discuss recovery options. Not one drop of visible blood on the other side of the swamp. Trusting the dog completely at that point paid off. Congratulations Chris ! ๐๐ปโ๐ป๐บ๐ธ๐ฆ๐น

With the season just a few short weeks away, I hope everyone had a great off season. Iโm looking forward to tracking (and hunting) again as well as meeting new people. I truly hope you donโt need us but we are glad to help if you do! Genny and I are proud to announce we have become members of Deer Search of WNY, Inc. Great organization filled with members who have A TON of knowledge surrounding tracking and conservation. If anyone is looking to get into tracking or would like to support our cause please reach out!

Great way to explain why calling your local tracking dog before grid searching increases your chance of recovery immensely ๐ฆ๐ถ Canโt wait for next season ๐ค๐ป
