The Green Mountain Fly Tyers club will be meeting on Wednesday Oct 22nd at 7:30pm in the Godnick Center - 1 Deer St. Rutland, VT. Presenting for the evening will be the local fly tyer and warm water species aficionado – Eric Nelson.

Eric will be demonstrating a couple of bass fly patterns, first will be the Ehler’s Foam Tail Superworm and the second will be Olsen’s Straggle Nymph. Eric has tested the Foam Tail Superworm, he really liked the way the foam worked to impart action on the fly and reports catching many fish on it. He thinks it mimics the bass Ned Rig, a productive long time favorite. Eric has not personally tested Olsen’s Straggle Nymph but likes it for its simple looking stonefly like pattern. He says it appears compelling and thinks it would be a great fly for us to have in our arsenal.

Those interested in tying are welcome to bring their equipment and tie along or just come to watch, listen, and learn. The club will be collecting dues from new and returning members, a modest $20.

The Green Mountain Fly Tyers club will be holding its first scheduled meeting of its 36th season on Wednesday October 11th. The meeting will be held at 7:30pm at the Godnick Center - 1 Deer St. Rutland, VT and presenting for the evening will be the local legendary tyer Paul Buccheri. Paul will be demonstrating two simple but very effective flies, a BPS Spent Caddis and the Iris Caddis. The Iris is an emerger pattern developed by Craig Matthews of Blue Ribbon Flies of West Yellowstone. Originally designed for evening hatches on Western trout streams, this fly works equally well on Eastern freestones and tailwater rivers. The BPS design origin has been debated; however, legend has it that a well-respected tyer had tied this for his wife and named it after her – Barbara’s Problem Solver. It is a perfect offering when fish are feeding on caddis flies that have expired upon egg depositing. Bring your tying equipment if interested in joining the demonstration or just come to watch, listen, and learn. The club will be collecting dues from returning members for a modest amount of $20. Prospective members are welcome to join their first meeting as a guest and are encouraged to join thereafter.
