Have you ever wanted to ride on a drill team?
We have positions open on three mounted drill teams available now for tfe 2026 year. The Sacramento Sheriff’s Posse is looking for riders of all ages and experience levels. Give your horse a job - with a tax deduction ! You must own your own horse, truck and trailer, commit to practicing weekly in Sacramento, and be available for competing /performing several times a year January - October. The Sacramento Sheriff’s Posse is a 501c3 non profit operating in Sacramento County since 1937. Tax dollars do not support us in any way.
1. The “Alarm” Team is our beginner’s team - drill novices of all ages and youth riders - non-gaited and non-draft horses of all colors perform at the trot. Horses ridden with two hands (no flags).
2. Our intermediate team - the “911” Team. Horses of all colors (non-gaited and non-draft), perform at the lope carrying flags. Horses must be ridden one handed in a shanked bit.
3. Our advanced competitive team the Elite “Posse” - Palomino horses only. Horses perform at the gallop carrying flags. Horses must be ridden one handed in a shanked bit.
