Iâm not about over-bloated optimism.
Iâm not about ignoring our current predicaments or pretending that a new calendar date will somehow change all of it. (đ)
Nope, but I AM about the possibility of leveling up.
I choose to see 2021 not as some magical utopian escape from 2020âs griefs, but as a year brimming with potential, offering the opportunity to level up
âŚbeset with new challenges, nuanced obstacles, and still-uncharted terrain that requires skill and creative thinking to navigate.
Think about it - no new level of anything comes without its hard-earned progress.
Whether itâs the next level of Candy Crush, an Olympic event, graduation, or heck even a (finally) clean house, no one gets to the next level of their journey and says, âEh, it was kinda easy.ââââ
No way!
They arrive at the new level, sweaty and disheveled, maybe a little beat-up and tear-stained, but absolutely glowing with the energy of this new experience.â¨

Real talk - while some people were pulling out their wreaths and candles as soon as October hit, I was not feeling the holidays. This time of year had me feeling anxious, very sad, stressed, and sometimes I want to skip the celebrating altogether. đ
It isnât anyone elseâs doing; I just feel more like the Grinch (pre-heart growing) than anything else, and I couldnât take the jolly holiday revelers.
It wasnât until I wrote myself a permission slip to feel all of what was trying to be felt, and express emotions that needed expression, that I found a place of calm. I saw the sad things, I admitted my worries to myself, and my soul settled.
âĄď¸ We avoid feeling things sometimes because we tell ourselves the lie that âIf I admit this uncomfortable feeling, it will last forever, or at least a longer time.â
âĄď¸ The truth is, only when you admit the uncomfortable feeling will it be able to dissipate.
So tonight, tomorrow, or anytime during the holiday season, if youâre feeling something other than delirious happiness, I invite you to spend some moments admitting what youâre feeling, in whatever words feel honest to you.
No judgment,
no âshouldâs,
no thinking of who has it worse or what you have to be happy about.
Just admit it. And do what you have to do to release it. Cry, scream in a pillow, go for a walk... a few ideas.
Wherever you are and whomever youâre with, Iâm wishing you wholeness and health - inside and out - as you traverse the sometimes emotional holiday landscape of your journey. â¨

Did you make a New Yearâs resolution last year? Can I take a guess? Was it something likeâŚ
⢠get in shape
⢠eat healthierÂ
⢠cut out *insert this-is-bad-for-you food trend here*
Did I come close? A great big goal thatâs majorly different from your current lifestyle?
Seriously, no shame - Iâve been there too. And I donât have to get very far into a year for these resolutions to get put in the âignore thisâ pile in my brain. đ§ đ
I hear this from people who are smart and capable - and I do it myself - so why the big FLOP at the new year?
I figured out why: theyâre too broad, too nebulous, too ambiguous.
We say things like âget in shapeâ with no place to start and no parameters, so we set ourselves up for failure.Â
âĄď¸âĄď¸âĄď¸Hereâs how to create a flop-proof resolution:
1ď¸âŁ Accept it. âItâs okay for me to want ______.â In order to move toward something, you need to admit that you want it. Wanting is a good thing! Write it down, say it out loud. Quit playing hard-to-get with the universe and be okay wanting something.
2ď¸âŁ Give up whatâs in the way. âIn order to get _____, I am giving up ______.â If it feels uncomfortable to give something up, thatâs okay! Youâre on the right track. Once you identify this, you are freeing up the space for your goal to unfold.
3ď¸âŁ Zoom in. Way in. More, a little further, almost there⌠okay, you get the point. Take your idea from step one, and ask â¨how, â¨what, â¨when, â¨where, and â¨how long.â¨
âFor example, if you want to âeat healthier,â maybe your HOW is by cooking more, your WHAT is organic foods, your WHEN is once a week, your WHERE is at home, and your HOW LONG is two months. So weâve transformed a vague idea with loads of pressure behind it - âeat healthierâ - into a very specific target with clearly identifiable parts - âhome cook an all-organic meal once a week for two months.â
Thatâs a big CAN DO! đŞ

Your đ health đ is more đ than đ food industry fads and heart rate spikes.
âľ Iâve villainized because the trends told me and my coaches to do so.
⥠Iâve staved off holiday workout guilt with sprints because my studio buddies and coaches were doing it.
Iâll tell you without hesitation that NEITHER HELPED. Both fed parts of my shadow self that I wanted to ignore. Both stressed out an already-stressed system and hijacked my metabolism.
PSA - now is not the time for stressed-out nervous systems, immune systems, or metabolisms. Now is the time to build RESILIENT bodies, SUSTAINABLE strategies, and fitness that integrates the WHOLE SELF.

Unpopular opinion: no one is coming to save me (or you).
Realizing this can be challenging, grown-up-temper-tantrum-inducing, even infuriating. Iâve seen the kicking and screaming. Iâve done a bit of it myself.
But then, it becomes empowering.
My health is my own, and no one elseâs. Your health is your own, and no one elseâs.
Self ownership is our level-up. How many lives would be improved, even saved, if we STOOD UP and took personal responsibility for our health?
As a collective,
We NEED to be moving, and moving well.
We NEED to be fueling, and fueling well.
We NEED to be making daily choices that support our
