Well, we made the trip to Placerville Speedway for points race number four. Car count was a little lighter this weekend with eight late models in attendance, but all eight teams came ready to put on a good show. We unloaded with some speed right away. In hot laps the car felt really good, and we ended up second quick overall, just .035 off the fastest lap.

Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side with the draw, as I pulled a high number and had to start seventh out of eight in the heat race. We were able to work our way up to fifth pretty quickly turning the fastest lap at 12.983, but the car kept bottoming out. At first I thought the track was just getting rough, but as the race went on we slipped back to finish eighth.

Before the feature, I debated making changes since we were starting dead last, but decided to see what the track would give us. When the green flag dropped, the car actually felt really good entering turn one, but we still weren’t fully up to speed yet. By the time we reached turn three, the car bottomed out hard and I knew something wasn’t right. The next time into turn one it bottomed out even worse, digging the chassis into the track so hard that it slammed my head into the seat and my shoulder into the containment seat as well, leaving me with a mild concussion. At that point I pulled off the track, and we were credited with an eighth-place finish.

After going through the car, we found the issue — the hose connecting the canister to the shock had failed, leaking out both the shock fluid and nitrogen. We sent the shock off to our builder Monday morning so we can get everything repaired and be ready for the next race.

I want to thank my wife Tianna and my father-in-law Jim for always being there every race night. My father-in-law is in his 70s and still never misses a race, always helping out and scraping mud off the car. This weekend he even requested a broom so he could reach more of the mud on the car, which I thought was pretty awesome.

Also, a huge thank you to all of our sponsors for their continued support:

We made the trip to Placerville Speedway for the Tilford Tribute, honoring local legend Donny Tilford. A strong field of 16 cars signed in, but heavy rain earlier in the week left the track extremely wet and took time to get into racing condition.

We went out for hot laps mainly to check everything over, as the surface wasn’t quite ready for full speed yet. Starting on the inside of row two in the heat race, we ran up front with the leaders until I ran out of tear-offs and lost visibility, forcing us to give up a little ground. We still managed to bring it home third, which lined us up third for the feature due to a straight-up invert.

We got a solid jump at the start of the main and moved into third, but an early caution for a couple of spinning cars brought on a complete restart. On the restart, we slipped back to fourth and settled into a strong side-by-side battle with the 96M for 10–15 laps. Unfortunately, a rut in turns one and two kept catching me on the bottom. On lap 17, it grabbed the car just right and sent me into the infield. While trying to gather it back up and rejoin the race, I made contact with another car and got spun around.

We restarted around 10th and worked our way back up to finish eighth. Overall, it was a solid night. The car was fast, and we’re looking forward to getting back to Placerville Speedway on May 9.

Special thank you to my awesome wife Tianna for always being there and being my pit crew.

A huge shout out to my father-in-law Jim Black for coming out and helping out and making sure the mud is scraped off the car every time.

Another shout out to Dan and Brittney Brown for coming out and helping out as well. It’s always fun when you can go racing with friends.
