Happy Easter everyone!
Man, was I nervous yesterday at A&S Motorcycles for the Mind Over Machine - The Psychology of Riding Motorcycles' book launch event. 70 to 80 people came in and it was a blast having them. Jill Akkaya was incredible announcing the speakers. Barry J Rowland started it out with a flashback and takeaways as a student of the Superbike-Coach Corp.. Then it was Mark Stewart's turn, funny and emotional. After that, I had my part and we went into signing copies. That took quite some time as people were lining up out the door. If you'd read one chapter... you'd understand too!
Jill announced the raffle and some won great prices while the rest was enjoying the food that A&S had provided, so a special thanks goes out to Jeff and Randy!
Thanks to Dean Lonskey Photography and the rest of the SBC team: Marion, Jill, Mark, Nick and Chris. You guys mean the world to me!
Love,
Coach

FINALLY... the hardback version of 'Mind Over Machine' is available on Amazon TODAY! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GLHNDHRB
Here is the latest review of a reader (Scotty):
"Psychology of Riding Motorcycles by Can Akkaya is an absolute game-changer for anyone who throws a leg over a bike—whether you're a weekend cruiser, a spirited canyon carver, or a track-day addict chasing tenths of a second. This isn't just another riding manual filled with the usual "look through the turn" clichés. It's a raw, no-holds-barred psychological deep dive into the real battle every rider faces: the one happening inside your helmet.
Drawing from four decades as a professional racer, lifelong rider, and head coach at Superbike-Coach Corp in Sacramento, Can Akkaya delivers the unfiltered truth that most riding schools gloss over. He brilliantly exposes the hidden forces—fear, ego, self-imposed pressure, paralyzing "what if" scenarios, and stubborn bad habits—that sabotage our performance and, far too often, our safety. As Akkaya puts it so perfectly, "You don't ride with your hands. You ride with your mind." This book arms you with the mental frameworks to break through those barriers and finally ride at your true potential.
What makes Mind Over Machine stand out is its refreshing honesty. Akkaya doesn't sugarcoat anything or offer feel-good platitudes. Instead, he gives you the tough-love "butt kick" you actually need, backed by real-world insights from his racing career and thousands of students he's coached. He calls it a "psychological audit" of your riding, and that's exactly what it feels like: a clear-eyed examination of why you sometimes freeze, hesitate, or push too hard when you know better. The result? Actionable strategies to build unbreakable confidence, manage stress at the limit, and turn riding into a flowing, joyful expression of mastery rather than a constant internal struggle.
At nearly 300 pages (with bonus material), the book is packed with practical psychology tailored specifically to motorcycling. Akkaya melts down his "messy racing memories" into a powerful framework he calls the Mental Matrix, exploring the intersection of fear, ego, and survival instincts that dictate how we actually ride. Whether you're navigating busy city streets, pushing your limits on a racetrack, or enjoying twisty backroads, the lessons hit home hard and stick with you long after you put the book down.
If you've ever felt held back despite having the skills and the machine, or if you've ever walked away from a ride frustrated because your brain got in the way, this book is for you. It's the missing piece in motorcycle education—the part that bridges the gap between knowing what to do mechanically and actually doing it when it counts. Akkaya's decades of hard-won wisdom make Mind Over Machine feel like having a world-class coach whispering (or sometimes shouting) in your ear every time you twist the throttle.
In a world obsessed with faster bikes and better suspension, Akkaya reminds us that the ultimate upgrade is the software between your ears. This book doesn't just make you a better rider—it makes you a safer, more confident, and more fulfilled one. I can't recommend it highly enough. Whether you're a total beginner or a seasoned pro, Mind Over Machine deserves a permanent spot in your gear bag (or on your nightstand). Five glowing stars—grab it, read it, and prepare to transform the way you ride forever.
You don't just read this book. You live it on every ride."
