There’s a different kind of energy when junior golfers practice alongside the same kids they’ll compete with on Saturday.

They learn from each other. They celebrate the great shots, encourage each other through the tough ones 😂, and quietly start pushing themselves because nobody wants to be the one getting left behind.nobody wants to be the one getting left behind.

THAT is one of the reasons we love team golf.

Golf will always be an individual game in so many ways. Your golfer still has to stand over the ball, make the decision, control the nerves and hit the shot. But practicing as a team gives kids something they don’t get hitting a bucket of balls alone, other young golfers who challenge them, encourage them and make them want to get better.

At Florida Junior Golf, our PGA Jr. League players range from brand-new golfers still figuring this crazy game out to experienced players ready for more competition. They practice together, learn together and then take those skills onto the course together.

Somewhere along the way, the kid standing next to them at practice becomes a teammate, a friend…and maybe the person coming for their score next.

⛳ Okay golfers… what’s YOUR favorite club in the bag?

We handed the interview over to two of our junior golfers today, and they had some very important questions for each other. 😂

“What’s your favorite golf club… and WHY?”

One golfer couldn’t choose just one, his driver AND putter made the list. Honestly, we respect it. 😂 One gets the ball started and the other gets the dang thing in the hole.

Our other golfer picked his trusty 7-iron. ⛳

But there’s actually a lot of learning happening in this little conversation.

🏌️ The driver is built for distance and is usually used from the tee on longer holes.

⛳ The 7-iron is one of those wonderfully useful clubs junior golfers can learn a LOT with. It can help them practice solid contact, direction, distance control and approach shots.

🎯 And the putter? It may not make the biggest swing, but every golfer quickly learns just how important it is when the scorecard comes out. 😂

And while they’re learning about golf clubs, they’re also practicing something we care about just as much: communication.

Asking a good question.
Listening to someone else's answer.
Looking at the person who's speaking.
Thinking before answering.
Explaining WHY instead of only saying, “because I like it.” 😂
And getting comfortable speaking in front of other people and a camera.

Golf gives kids so many opportunities to build confidence that have absolutely nothing to do with how far they can hit a ball.

BEFORE THEY GIVE UP ON GOLF…CHECK THEIR CLUBS!

When kids are first learning golf, they don’t know the difference between struggling because they’re new and struggling because their equipment doesn’t fit.

They just know they keep missing.

And when the other kids are making contact, hitting the ball farther or celebrating great shots, that can start to feel pretty disheartening.

A child may feel embarrassed in front of their teammates, frustrated with themselves or begin thinking, “Maybe I’m just not good at golf and shouldn't play.”

That’s why properly fitted junior clubs matter.

A club that is too long, too heavy or too stiff can be harder for a small golfer to control. Instead of learning a natural swing, they may start changing their body and movement just to manage the club.

And then we’re trying to correct a swing that the equipment may have helped create in the first place.

This is one reason we use UpSwing Golf.

We measure both height AND wrist-to-floor because two 9-year-olds can be the exact same age and have completely different bodies.

The goal is simple: put equipment in their hands that fits the golfer who is standing in front of us.

Because learning golf takes time. There will be missed balls, bad shots and plenty of “WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?!” moments. 😂

That’s part of golf.

But we never want a child fighting equipment that was never right for them and believing the struggle means they aren’t capable.

Sometimes a little confidence starts with something as simple as having the right club in your hands. 💚

If your kids between 7 - 17 have been wanting to get out on a golf course and play, join us!

Parents, you will get to drive your junior golfer in the golf cart, help cheer them on and build their confidence all while everyone is having fun and enjoying the game and community.

Coach Roger and Jorge from Florida Junior Golf as well as Cay, Mike, Nathan and April will be mentoring your junior golfers.

We will be learning basic swing mechanics, rules of the game, history, manners and etiquette on the course, the mental part of the game, building confidence and the love of golf.
