Post pics of your oscars, ask questions, answer other peoples questions, ETC. I have a completely different question unrelated to my (doing very well) 150 gallon tropical. I've become fascinated with fish and have decided it's not all about fancy colours and so on. Each breed is unique and have their own traits. So my question is this - getting as close to UK freshwater as possible in a setup. Thi
nk it would be cool to educate people who come to our house if we had some sticklebacks and/or minnows. I'm really keen to replicate this and would like some advice on parameters, tank size etc. I don't want to just go to a lake or river and scoop them out. I'd rather find a LFS that sells them so they should be disease free. Edit: Yes I'm rapidly being affected by MTS
Edit 2: sticklebacks, minnows, bullhead and gobio gobio are probably the only small fish potentially suitable. http://oscarfishcare.com/air-pump/
Correct PJ. You can take the odd fish you find (mum did this with a few minnows) but you can NEVER put them back as it can mess up the ecosystem. Hence why lots of crisis and threats of extinction are all over the world. Predatory fish are spreading and wiping out the ecosystems worldwide. Luckily I don't think the UK is too bad affected as most of the fish I'm referring to are tropical. I'd still rather purchase from a fish farm though. I mean, live caught could have diseases or anything. Hoovering/siphoning is very important to the common catfish. Also they need brushing as they tend to lick themselves and end up coughing up fur balls. Be wary to wash your hands after handling the catfish, especially if it licked you, as they're known for licking the bottoms of themselves and their brethren. Also the catfish might escape without a lid and want to jump out of the window for freedom. This is normal behaviour. Food requirements vary, but from time to time the escapee may return with a dead rat or mouse in his/her mouth. This is to show you that you're providing the correct parameters for your catfish. Oscar fish care guide in 6 steps. Some smaller LFS will accept deposits. Our reptilarium let us put a 50 deposit on our tank and asked how long it'd take to pay. We said 3-4 weeks. 4 weeks and it was delivered. Complete setup! He gives people money for old tank so this one is a custom 6 foot. Way cheaper than buying new. OK, my 60g has been up and running for just over a month. Well, 3 months cycling and about 5 weeks with fish. I have some java ferns in there (this is my first experience with a planted tank) I also have 8 danios, 2 bn plecos and 4 guppies. My parameters are: temp- 78, ammonia- 0, nitrites- 0 and nitrates- .25. I have a huge algae bloom going on. I do a 10-15% water change twice per week. How do I fix it???? Now that the plumbing is done, moving back to the motorized canopy and hiding all the wiring. Painted and reassembled, ready to add controllers and wiring. (They will all hide in those boxes with the dj switches in them) Once it's installed in the house it will get some nice trim and doors. How long do betta fish grow for? I've had my little female, Wendy, for over a year and I raised her from 8 weeks old. When I got her she was maybe half an inch long, and while she has most certainly grown, she's still significantly smaller than the females that I see for sale in stores. Is she just petite, or does she still have some growing to do? Either way she's a lovely, spunky little thing. Oscar fish are so awesome!
