Huntsman World Senior Games

Dr. Steven Zelko will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year at the Huntsman World Senior Games. He stands among the most dominant volleyball champions in Huntsman World Senior Games history. Joining the Games when he turned 50, Steven has played on a staggering 22 Gold Medal Championship teams across the Men's 50s division from 2011-2022, the 55s from 2015-2025 (where he was also Team Captain and Head Coach each year), and 60s divisions in 2024 and 2025.

Steven’s leadership and master recruitment skills were vital when chosen as Team Organizer and Head Coach for the USA Global Cup team at our Games in 2010, 2012, and 2014. He championed global friendship by organizing and hosting dinners for Team USA and inviting all of the visiting international teams, including Russia, Germany, Switzerland and more. Beyond his athletic excellence, he has repeatedly been recognized for his integrity and outstanding sportsmanship by Tournament Director Sue Mailhot.

Steven is also a practicing ophthalmologist in Santa Barbara, California and a volunteer volleyball coach for youth, high school, and collegiate programs. Under his tutelage, multiple players have transferred to top Division I Men’s volleyball teams from junior college. Steven expresses profound gratitude for his Hall of Fame induction and celebrates lifelong health alongside cherished friends.

Introducing Jack Berg, an inductee in this year's Huntsman World Senior Games' Hall of Fame:

Jack Berg embodies the core spirit of the Huntsman World Senior Games through decades of multi-sport competition, dedicated leadership, and selfless service. Jack first discovered the Games in the mid-1990s alongside his late wife, Dee. A versatile athlete, Jack has competed across three decades in table tennis, social golf, shot put, horseshoes, and 3-on-3 basketball, earning bronze medals in table tennis and basketball.

Beyond his athletic participation, Jack has served as a Softball Assistant Director and Field Supervisor for a decade. Traveling from Nebraska to St. George on his own dime to volunteer, Jack is universally beloved by athletes and officials for his warmth and for sharing his famous homemade peanut brittle with participants. His devotion honors a promise to Dee, who found deep comfort and joy competing in tennis and swimming during her battle with terminal breast cancer.

Outside the Games, Jack’s lifetime of leadership includes nearly 14 years as Mayor of Bridgeport, Nebraska, 14 years on the school board, eight years on city council, and over 60 years in the Lions Club. Jack models integrity, service, and enduring friendship, creating a welcoming community for all.

When Jean Duffy, this week's Active Life podcast guest, was a young adult, she enjoyed doing triathlons, but when she was introduced to soccer, she found a sport that she loved. Jean couldn't help but be inspired when she was introduced to the Soccer Grannies and learned their journey that began as one team of 40-80-year-old ladies playing soccer in South Africa and has evolved to over 200 teams with the same demographic. These ladies held their own World Cup in 2023 and 2025 and have plans to hold another in 2027.
