Hydration:

1) Drink to thirst only.
2) Keep your body cool, if possible. Ice and water in your hat, around your neck, on your waist, etc. Dip in creeks and streams.
3) Rehydrate post-training, exercise, competition.

The worst I’ve ever felt is from over/excess hydration. If you are not thirsty, don’t drink. The body knows. Listen.

My thoughts, from personal experience, in somewhat extreme conditions. Dehydration is temporary stress. External cooling is your friend.

Now go train!

Time / Space / Intention

Prioritize. Repeat. Learn.

Your most valuable resource is time. We all get the same amount. No one has more, no one has less. We can only hope to waste as little as possible. The expiration date is usually too distant to fully comprehend its magnitude. But, you must. Your life is a treasure. Your health is a choice.

1- Create and assign values to every aspect of your life: physical, mental, social, spiritual, vocational, familial.
2- Make sure your decisions align with your values.
3- Repeat.
4- Reflect, but do not judge, life is learning.

The bighorn mountains in Wyoming both move, and silence me. Accessible and inviting, yet eerily silent. Clarity is felt. My desires, and my frustrations are equally released to the expanse before me. Nothing to buy, nothing to sell. No demands. No expectations.

If the world is our home we must embrace access to freespace. The paved path may be a prison, or a gateway to some greater potential. Arrive each day.
Presence sees no obstacles.
Our perception is our baseline.
The world is skewed through this lens.

Change your State // Design Your Future

I’ve learned, through much error, that what I can plan is too small for me to live. Larger expanses of time are needed to find my bliss.

I love when the intensity of summer cools off in the evening. The mountains place an edge on all of life. Vigor. Excitement. Drama. It’s all bigger at elevation.

I’m drawn to peaks. Next Saturday’s 100-mile trail race will be another. What follows are the valleys. I suppose I’m drawn to them as well. What we desire (the summit) also exposes us to the void of descent (the finish). To love the sharp/intense requires one to accept to dull/mundane.

Life is way more complex than any of us care to admit. We can’t be 100% in any single direction very often. Life is too dynamic (work, family/social, faith/study, health, etc). Thus, I attempt these events. Exposed, what follows is “life in a day” ... all emotions packed into a 24 (or so) hour window. This is where I feel most alive. This is where I choose to be exposed. My opportunity to be 100% alive.

If we all admitted who we are, at our core, this world would be a kinder place. Assumptions would fade away. Lines would be blurred. Each of us would display as pure individuals. Collaboration would follow and our communities would coalesce. Acceptance. Acknowledgment.

Find a place. Create a moment. Share it with those you like, love, and are loyal to. Instagram proves our curiosity is strong. Our anonymity need not be. Don’t be afraid (hesitant) to let someone know their presence is felt, even from afar.

Onward and upward.

Hardship

I knew it wouldn't be easy. Deep mental, systemic fatigue gripped me. My physical body seemed ready, though readiness is often an assumption proved false shortly after setting out. Stomach issues.
