The other day, I hit a 300 lb bench press. šŖ
Now, at 175 lbs, benching nearly twice my body weight was NEVER a goal of mine.
My goal was always pretty simple: I wanted to be strong enough to toss around 200 lbs comfortably. As a paramedic, lifting people is part of the job, so that seemed like a pretty reasonable goal to work toward.
But the other day, I was feeling GOOD after my working sets, so I decided to keep adding weight and see what I could do.
300 lbs later⦠SHEESH! š
The crazy part? Somewhere along the way, I didnāt just reach my original goal. I surpassed it without even realizing it because I was too busy enjoying the process.
And THAT is what really got me thinking.
There was a time when exercise felt like a chore. I was doing things wrong, constantly tired, feeling weak, and wondering why I was putting in all this effort just to feel like crap.
Now? My energy is higher than ever. I feel strong, capable, and genuinely GOOD in my own body.
But the biggest transformation hasnāt been physical.
ITāS BEEN MY MENTAL HEALTH.
The confidence, the clarity, the sense of control over my own life⦠I canāt even begin to explain how much that means to me.
And after knowing what it feels like to lose those things, I never want to let my mental health slip that far again.
The 300 lb bench press is cool, donāt get me wrong. But being able to wake up, feel good about myself, and actually ENJOY the life Iām living?
THAT is the real accomplishment.
Iām getting closer to 40, and I feel better about myself than I ever did in my 20s.
Not because I can lift more weight or because I look a certain way, but because Iāve learned how to take care of myself in a way that actually makes me WANT to keep showing up.
And thatās what I want for you, too.
If youāve been feeling disconnected from your body, struggling with your energy, or just donāt feel like YOU anymore, I want you to know that feeling good again is possible.
You donāt have to bench 300 lbs. You donāt have to chase somebody elseās idea of what healthy looks like.
You just have to find a way to start showing up for yourself again.
Because taking care of your body shouldnāt feel like punishment. It should feel like learning to love yourself again. ā¤ļø
And when youāre ready to start that journey, reach out. Iād love to help you find your way back.
