East St. Louis will move up to 7A for IHSA football playoffs in 2026 after their petition was approved.

Last year, ESL was in 6A and an 8-seed despite their only losses being to other nationally ranked teams outside the state.

They defeated 10-0 Glenwood in the 2nd round and made the state title.

This year, the Flyers are ranked No. 1 in Illinois, and already beat Chicago Mt. Carmel by 19 points in the season opener.

The Salem tennis team is at home against Mt Carmel.

Hodges Leads Annies To Quad Win

The Annies won a quad match shooting 190, Pinckneyville shot 193, Mt Vernon 197 and Vandalia 224. Centralia freshman Chloe Hodge was medalist shooting 43, Syann Callihan, another freshman from Pinckneyville, was 2nd shooting 44, Dakira Brown of Vandalia shot 45, with Emily Hoerchler of Centralia and Callie Haarmann of Mt Vernon tied for 4th with 47.

Also for Centralia, Sienna Fieg shot 49, Reese Koester and Charleigh Garren 51s and Gwen Jack 60.

For Mt Vernon, Harlow Kujawa shot 48, Maliya Jones 49, Josie Colle 53, Londyn Steffy 55 and Bryeli Tate 56.

The Lady Wildcats golf are at Olney.

Senior Maxey Honored Before Match With Mt Vernon

The Salem Wildcats golf team honored their lone senior, Landen Maxey, as they fell at home to Mt Vernon 145-155. Maxey was 5th overall shooting a 38. Kai Graham led the Cats shooting 37 and was 4th. Also for Salem, Jaxon Ward shot 39, Scout Puricelli 41, Grant Squibb 46 and Huck Mulvany 49.

The Mt Vernon Rams beat Centralia earlier this week 151-162. The Rams took the top four spots led by junior Maxwell Rinehart who shot a 36 followed by Coleton Crawford 37, Xander Ashby 38 and Luke Heaney 40. Gage Raney rounded out the five with a 43.

Woodlawn Shows Well At Sparta XC Meet

The Woodlawn Cross Country team competed at Brown-Stevenson Park in Sparta. Freshman Camden Hughes was 16th in the varsity boy’s race for his highest placing of the season and setting a PR. In the girl’s race, senior Zelena Koch finished 8th overall. This was her 5th medal in her last 5 meets. Younger sister Zaylor Koch grabbed her highest finish of the season she was 12th overall. Woodlawn will run at the Edwardsville Invite on Saturday.
