👀! Masters swimmers never fail to amaze us - and each other! Proud of you all!
Seven broken ribs. A punctured lung. Induced coma. And a return to competition four months later.
Duncan McBride, 71, fell off a horse four months before last August’s Summer Nationals, leaving him severely injured and on a ventilator as doctors worked to re-expand his lungs.
”I almost died,” the Los Angeles Peninsula Swimmers member says.
He spent weeks in the hospital and got back in the water just two weeks after being discharged. He finished third in the 200 freestyle and sixth in the 50 butterfly at Summer Nationals.
”I got through it and got back on the sports horse,” he says. “I was literally overjoyed.”
Congratulations on your remarkable comeback story, Duncan!
