I don’t know about you but evenings at my house are chaotic. My husband and I have been blessed with five active children, but our work schedules, school and sports pick ups can make “dinner time” the toughest part of the day.

We both have high demand jobs and are always trying to do too many things at once — running to the store, cooking, trying to remember if anyone fed the dog, put the towels in the dryer and regular diplomatic-level negotiations with a tween girl to get out of the bathroom, to name a few.

Amidst all that, we’re supposed to be eating healthy foods, exercising, getting enough sleep, and practicing self-care. Who has time for all that?

These days, my biggest healthy eating challenge is finding the time and motivation to meal prep for myself and plan healthy meals for my family.

Meals for us typically become more of a chore and another thing on the “to do list” rather than quality family time. Increasingly, my husband, children and I have been able to share in dinner duty since our children have gotten older and this divide and conquer approach has helped us make sure we eat at home and make better choices, But the struggle of getting it done is real….
But the reality is we all care about the quality of the food we choose and like most Americans we like to eat. So the stress of planning and preparing is forgotten once we sit down and enjoy a meal that makes us feel good about our nutritional choices. We’ve learned that- Garbage in, garbage out is a reality we no longer want in our lives. We know and understand what feeling good is, and we don’t want to go back to believing that constantly feeling tired and worn down, is just the way life is.
