Memorial Day is the time to pay tribute to the warriors who lost their lives fighting for our freedom. One way to pay tribute is to complete a difficult workout that challenges you to keep pushing through fatigue. The Murph is one such hero workout. It pays tribute to fallen Navy Seal Lieutenant Michael Murphy. However, you can choose a workout that provides the appropriate level of intensity relative to your level of fitness. Challenge yourself and accomplish something for yourself and our heroes. You still have time. Thanks

We are nearly half way through 2022. Do you need help reaching your fitness goals? Contact us for affordable personal training in the San Antonio area. Let’s Zero the Count, face the calendar head-on, and reset your countdown to fitness.
Welcome to ZERO THE COUNT.
All of us have struggled to start or maintain a path to fitness and wellness. We often experience a setback that results in us giving up and stepping off the path. We sometimes feel like we are too de-conditioned or too old to jump back on the path. However, the path to fitness and wellness, and a better quality of life, is always available to you. You just need a reset. You just need to ZERO THE COUNT.
ZERO THE COUNT is a term that is familiar to individuals who have participated in military or para-military training. During physical fitness training, we dreaded hearing “ZERO THE COUNT” because that meant we would have to start an exercise over. Usually, an instructor would state that someone had missed a repetition or did not do the exercise properly. Therefore, the entire group would start the exercise over. I thought “ZERO THE COUNT” was a punishment. Not anymore.
Jim Rohn stated, “Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better.”
ZERO THE COUNT is an opportunity to reset and get better. This is important because the path to fitness and wellness is not an easy path. The path does not require perfection. Sometimes, we stumble and fall, but we can’t quit. We must get back up and drive on. Also, the path is not a short one. It never ends. The path to fitness and wellness is a lifelong journey. This is the reason we highlight functional and relative fitness.
Functional fitness involves prioritizing movements that are common to your activities of daily living. Improving functional fitness means the movements you do daily will involve less effort, struggle, or pain.
Relative fitness involves training with a goal in mind, while focusing on your current level of conditioning. We believe in the effectiveness of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). However, we understand that high intensity does not have a uniform definition. Clients train at a level of intensity that is relative to their level of fitness. Clients train at a level of intensity that is high for them.
I founded ZERO THE COUNT after retiring from a nearly 30-year career in law enforcement. I served as a Criminal Investigator, Instructor, Fitness Coordinator, Commander and Academy Manager. I currently serve as a part-time security contractor. I earned a Master of Science Degree. I am an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and CrossFit Level 1 Trainer (CF-L1).
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the dangers of the underlying health conditions that result from a lack of fitness and wellness. Our mission at ZERO THE COUNT is to provide affordable personal training to a wide variety of clients and help them to get better. For some, getting better may mean improving on an established level of fitness to achieve specific athletic goals. More importantly, for others, getting better means taking the path from impending sickness to fitness and wellness. This never-ending path leads to a better quality of life, not just now, but for many years to come.
Nobody can achieve perfection, but we can all get better. If you are ready to reset, contact us. If you are ready to get better, contact us. If you are ready to ZERO THE COUNT, contact us.
Thanks,
Shawn Palmer
