Another historic performance 🏰

The Dunbar Poets are considered by many to be the greatest high school basketball team of all time. The team finished the 1981-82 season with a 29-0 record and followed it up with a 31-0 record in 1982-83, earning a No. 1 national ranking by USA Today.

The team included:

• Muggsy Bogues: The shortest player in NBA history and the team’s MVP as a senior.

• Reggie Williams: The National High School Player of the Year who went on to play in the NBA.

• Reggie Lewis: A future NBA All-Star who came off the bench for Dunbar.

• David Wingate: Known for his defensive prowess in college and the NBA.

• Gary Graham (UNLV), Tim Dawson (Miami), Keith James (UNLV), Darryl Woods (Virginia Union), Jerry White

The team was coached by Bob Wade, a former NFL player and neighborhood native.

Their success provided a pathway out of poverty for many of the players, offering opportunities to earn college scholarships and even reach the NBA.
