In most instances, I seem to always want to give a buck “one more year” unless there’s overwhelming evidence that he’s mature. One hopes that next year he may be a little bit heavier, or that he finally throws that matching G6. At the very least, he’ll be able to spread his seed one more season. On the contrary, if you wait too long, you may have already witnessed the pinnacle of that buck’s genes being expressed. You also have to contend with Mother Nature, which may not always be in that buck’s favor.
Sometimes you just have to roll the dice and enjoy the hunt.

Marrs always had a tremendous affinity towards hunting and conservation. She cherished each hunting adventure she ever went on, but hunting whitetail on her South Texas ranch was by far her favorite pastime. If Marrs enjoyed one thing, it was going after big deer.

She taught me so much about hunting, and gave new meaning to what it takes to be a hunter. She showed me how to have gratitude when taking an animal’s life, and how to be a respectable hunter both in and out of the field. The depth of her knowledge was immense, and she would graciously share this skill set with anyone. Her father, an icon in the hunting world, taught her well.

Today would have been her 43rd birthday. She is extremely missed by her family and friends. She left a void in my heart I will never be able to fill, but I am eternally grateful for every moment we had together. I wouldn’t trade it for the World. I love you baby.
