How's your mosquitoes this season? As expected or above normal?

🦟 Why are mosquitoes more aggressive than ever in Houston right now?

Residents say they're getting swarmed the moment they step outside, and experts say there's a reason. A wet spring, warm temperatures and a mild winter have created ideal breeding conditions, leading to a sharp rise in mosquito populations and West Nile-positive mosquito samples across the region.

Our dedicated Victoria Parks and Recreation crews have nearly finished their 2nd spray of the city in the past two weeks! Here’s the plan for this weekend (weather permitting):
🦟 Saturday morning: Zones 13, 16, 17 and parts of 18
🦟 Sunday morning: Zones 10, 14 and the rest of 18
Remember that the crews can only spray on public roadways, so it’s very important that residents help to prevent mosquitos on their own properties! Using mosquito dunks and pouring out standing water are great ways to stop mosquitos in their tiny tracks.

As a reminder, Parks & Recreation only handles spraying within city limits. For county residents, visit https://www.vcphd.org/page/health.environ.mosquito.control

Not all mosquitoes are the same. This species is a known carrier of West Nile virus and is commonly found in our county.

By removing standing water around your home, you can help reduce mosquito breeding sites and support a healthier community.
