Yesterday was special, visiting Jim Urbina and seeing his Ocean Course remodel work at The Olympic Club. It is gonna be a fun golf course! Great Natural-Golf Course design had a glimmer of hope when Sand Hills opened and then Mike Keiser took that spark and started a bonfire. I was blessed to be invited to walk Pacific Dunes while it was being built and that led to a bunch of great connections for me. One of those I cherish is a friendship with Jim Urbina going back over 20 years now. Recently the stars aligned and we pulled into a satellite grass field parking lot at the exact same time trying to figure out who had the right way into the next open parking spot during the Walker Cup last year. Jim got to meet my wife at Cypress. 20 years prior he and I drove around Orinda Country Club just because he wanted to see some old Great golf course courses in the Bay Area and I knew of it having played golf there at St. Mary’s College. As luck would have it I became the superintendent there 10 years later. This game is special as are its relationships and connections.
