A great reminder of who some of are!
They call us "The Elders" We were born in the 40s-50s-60s. We grew up in the 50s-60s-70s. We studied in the 60s-70s-80s. We dated in the 70s-80s-90s. We got married and discovered the world in the 70s-80s-90s. We ventured into the 80s-90s.
We stabilized in the 2000s. We became wiser in 2010. And we are firmly moving beyond 2020. It seems like we live in eight different decades... TWO different centuries... TWO separate millennials...
We have gone from telephone with a long distance operator to video calls anywhere in the world.
We've gone from slides to YouTube, vinyl records to online music, handwritten letters to email and WhatsApp. From live game radio, to black and white television, to color television and then to 3D HD television. I went to the video store and now I watch Netflix.
We met the first computers, punched cards, floppy disks and now we have gigabytes and megabytes on our smartphones. We wore shorts all our childhood and then trousers, oxfords, rockets, full shells and blue jeans. We dodged infantile paralysis, meningitis, polio, tuberculosis, swine flu and now COVID-19. We used to ride roller skates, tricycles, bicycles, mopeds, gasoline or diesel cars and now we drive hybrids or electric cars.
Yes, we've been through a lot, but what a life we've had! They could describe us as "exemplars", people born in that world of the fifties, who had an analog childhood and digital adulthood. We're like "I've seen it all"! Our generation has literally lived and witnessed more than anyone else in all dimensions of life. It is our generation that has literally adapted to "CHANGE." A big round of applause to all the members of a very special generation, which will be UNIQUE! From Alicia Paz's wall

What would you think of a like-minded Zoom gathering — since I can’t really create an EVOLVE outside or in-person gathering?
Share from some of our archival personal bests out in nature and future TO DOs?

It’s no wonder my idea for EVOLVE didn’t get off the ground. If I had made some dates, they would have fallen under the wave of what’s happening right now.
It just wasn’t her time, EVOLVE, but my feeling now is it will be soon, on so many levels. Especially the connection with nature, as things are rapidly changing our opportunities for connection.
Maybe some of this, as I’ve been reading is a time of recovery for the planet and ourselves (speaking to myself) to go deep and reorganize everything. Our thoughts, actions, priorities in life.
My first published book was literally born on the edge of global collapse. I could just throw my hands up, but instead I’m looking for the silver linings. The book was always meant as a vehicle to help, to offer some inspiration... so in some ways, (maybe more than some) we have become captive audiences.
I share my book, “The Unintended Consequences of Hiking”, as a multiple page essay covering three years of my life, with literal ups and downs as I climbed and hiked my way to age 60 and beyond. All with positive consequences.
Use it for humor relief (we need), planning what IT is that you’ve been waiting to do — more than ever one of the EVOLVING lessons is the daily evaluation of what’s rising as truly sacred and important and left undone.

Getting primed with a new idea to EVOLVE...
Have you ever heard of the-three-day-effect?
Deb Burroughs and I are heading out Friday to give it our own test backpacking into the wild of the San Jacinto Mountains.
A research study was conducted in 2012, out of the University of Utah by cognitive neuroscientist David Strayer, where 28 backpackers were taken out into nature for three days, tests were taken before and after that showed an incredible increase in creativity and cognitive skills.
I want to look at it from the perspective of rebooting/healing from trauma and grief. Those two things I recently experienced through the death of my father. Unplanned this coincide with the second anniversary of his passing with my mom’s first anniversary right behind.
Many of us already know intuitively that nature is good for us in so many ways. I found this to be fascinating that science was looking deeper into it too!
We’ll let you know what we find... and get ready to evolve!
