We began to seriously research possible new careers. My wife is the type that has to be working. Real Estate kept coming to the forefront. We had already rented and then owned two homes and loved the process. We loved homes. My wife has a real love for old architecture and character and I love clean lines and modern finishes and we both grew to appreciate the other and meld them together. Both our homes had traditional designs with modern finishes, transitional. We began to look at the challenges of real estate, i.e. starting from the beginning again, learning a whole new profession, and not being able to apply any of our current experience or knowledge in our new profession.

When we really started to think about it, the jobs had a lot in common that we did not realize at first glance. Realtors, like Police Officers, are tasked with working with all kinds of people, all walks of life, and getting a job done (whether it be selling/buying their home or solving a crime/deescalating a situation). Realtors, also like Police Officers, are responsible for very important legal documents and documentation. If you take one thing away from Police work, it is a very keen ability for efficient and correct paperwork. The stakes in real estate are no where near that of Police work which is why you know my paperwork will always be pretty near perfect if not so. Being a Police Officer requires integrity, honesty, and looking out for the best interest of persons involved which is a key factor to being a good and successful Realtor. This, to me, is more important that anything else in Real Estate because anyone can sell you a house, but it takes someone who really cares about your interests to find you a good investment and home that is right for you, not just the Realtor’s wallet.

With a new career change came the idea of moving… and not just moving to another home or buying another property, but really moving. We had always dreamed of living someplace warm (most anywhere is warmer than Chicago) and San Diego kept being our number 1 choice. We have some family in Southern California, we love San Diego, and we had already been to numerous southern locations with San Diego always at the top of our list. It was our favorite place, weather and people wise, so we leapt. We leapt with both feet, new careers, a new home, and all with a 2-year-old… thinking about it now, I am not sure how we did it but we have not looked back once. We have been here a little while now and love everything about it. We are outside year-round with our now 2 daughters (surprise, we were pregnant when we got to Cali, must be something in the warm air 😉). We miss some family (and a couple of restaurants) but do not miss being in Illinois and are so grateful that we made this leap and started this new chapter in our lives.

That being said, California is a culture shock. You guys are not in a hurry all the time, you live a more laid-back existence which we have loved to adopt. One thing that I particularly pride myself in is I will not rush you as a client. We are at your pace and the market’s pace, not my own. I love what I do even more now and truly enjoy spending my day showing you properties and finding “the one.” Like a good romance, these things can not be hurried or forced, but also like a good romance, you have to act before they slip through your fingertips.

I have acquired a vast array of knowledge with working with people and laws over the last decade plus that I will do my best to make the investment process (whether for personal or profit) the most enjoyable, stress-free, fun experience I can. I also promise you that I will “have your back” from beginning to the end. Your smile at the end is worth more than a few extra bucks here or there that go as quickly as they come. I cherish my referrals and really appreciate the ongoing business that happy customers bring. Many of my customers become friends because I believe that life is better when we work together and help each other. I try to pay it forward, keeping the positive vibes going and always make sure I show how thankful I am for the continued support.

Something else about me is that I love is to work out and am just built a little bulkier than some so I am known to friends as “Big Mac.” So, if you need a realtor, a goofy friend, are new to SoCal, or need a workout partner…I’m Your Guy!
