The 2025 SCCA CalClub Awards Banquet

01/17/2026

It's 2026 and we are here at Buttonwillow Raceway Park for the first SCCA Majors event of the year hosted by CalClub. Clement Lee will be running a red SM #10.

Weather is dry and cold. Event was supposed to begin at 8a but we are currently fogged in and probably don't expect any clearing until noon or so.

Once the fog starts to clear, I'm sure we'll have a better idea of the revised event schedule at that time .

We were back at Buttonwillow Raceway Park last weekend for the SCCA Cal Club SM Championship penultimate round. Weather in Buttonwillow was pleasant in the low to mid '80s and calm condition.

Clement was driving the black SM #89 on The Classic track config #25 clockwise direction. He qualified in P4 on Saturday and P3 on Sunday.

For Saturday's race, Clement had a good start and kept pace with the leaders. After a few laps, he barged his way past Evan at the Esses into P2. He tried to get Nate in P1 to break away from the pack but was not happening. Clement made his move into P1 as Cooper in P4 began attacking. That gave Clements an opening to break away as both Nate and Evan in P2 and P3 were literally defending left and right from Cooper and P4. Clement put his head down and with a clear track in front, he was able to run the fast line to separate from the pack.

A scare came in the closing stage of the race when Clement caught up to a back marker at the worst place on the track at the Cotton Corners. He was stuck behind him for several seconds that felt like an eternity and you could see the pursuing pack closed rapidly. Fortunately the labs ran out and Clement was able to take the checkered in 1st followed by Evan in 2nd and Nate in 3rd.

Sunday race started similarly as Saturday with both Evan and Nate on the front row trying to hook up and break away. Clement was able to tag along right behind them. He knew he had to separate Nate from Evan so they could not break away. The 3 were racing into Star Mazda with both Clement and Nate exciting side by side with Clement slightly ahead. They were scraping door handles and mirrors going through the Esses, with Clement emerging ahead and both Nate and Evan in tow. The battle was on early.

This time, Clement was not able to get away as easily and was pushing hard every lap and crept closer and closer to the edge. Finally, it was too much as he dropped a couple wheels around the outside of Riverside. That was a high speed off. While there was no apparent damage, his car had enough and declined to restart and sat in the dirt until the end of the race.

Meanwhile, Nate, Evan and Cooper were having a magnificent battle of their own all their way to the finish line with Nate taking the win, Cooper in 2nd and Evan in 3rd.

We shall return to Buttonwillow in a few weeks time for the final round of the 2025 SCCA CalClub SM Championship

It was a sizzling Sunday SCCA Cal Club SM race at Willow Springs Raceway. Clement Lee started in P6 in row 3 on the outside lane. That lane got a good start at the green flag. For a moment, Clement followed the train through all the wayinto P3, but that was short lived as the inside train recovered and gained some of the spots back. Very quickly the top six car in nose to tail fashion broke away from the rest of the pack.

The front six were not holding back as they tried to out drive each other. There were constant switches in positions up and down that pack. As the blistering pays continues, Clement found some opportunities and began making his way up the field.

Clement was content to sit in P4 but soon realizes that P2 and P3 are not making headway. In fact, the lead car began to open up a gap. Clement got around P3 in turn 2 and tried to work with P2 to close the gap to the leader. But they were tripping over each other and couldn't make any headway.

Clement finally managed to get into P2 but the lead car is now far ahead. The race were winding down and there is just not enough laps left to reel in the leader. Clement decided to settle for second and made sure he stayed in P2 by defending vigorously in the final laps all the way to the finish. Clement finished in second with Nate Del Carmen in 3rd.

Another competitor filed a protest against the 1st place finisher for contract which caused him to spin off the track. From what I heard from the grapevine, the protest was upheld and the original first place finisher was penalized one position and moved into second place, so that meant Clement would be classified as the winner!

Now it's time for a summer break and the series resumes in October when we return to our Buttonwillow Raceway home track.

We are done with qualifying for SUN race. Wind picked up significantly albeit slightly cooler. Apart from P1, the top 6 times were relatively close. Clement Lee is starting in the 3rd row for the race at 2pm.

It was a sizzling race this afternoon at Willow Springs Raceway. Sizzling in 100⁰F weather. Clement Lee started on the 2nd row in P4, got a great start at the green flag and pushed thru into P2 with Tyler Vance getting into point and tried to break away. Clement and Nate gave chase and kept Tyler in sight. Nate eventually got around Clement but the 2 paired up and hunted down Tyler. The race is on.

Nate got around Tyler to take point with Tyler and Clement in tow. It took quite a few laps but Tyler got a good run out of turn 9 and made his way around Nate in turn 1 as Clement took the opportunity to follow thru. Nate started overheating and fell back. In the mean time, while all this is happening, Brett Revetta made a stunning drive from the back to catch the front pack. He even managed to get around both Clement and Tyler to take point.

Brett is not free and clear as Clement and Tyler were bidding their time to make a move. The white flag eventually came out as Clement got a run on Brett and made his way around to point on turn 1 and Tyler followed thru. Tyler looked for a way thru but Clement defended furiously.

At the checkered Clement came home in 1st with Tyler in 2nd and Brett on 3rd. We'll have another sizzling race tomorrow on Sunday.

That was another great race this SAT afternoon at The Circuit in Buttonwillow Raceway Park. Clement started in the 2nd row in P3, moved up a spot into P2 after the first corner, right behind Nate who's the pole sitter. The top 4 began to break away from the rest of the pack early on.

Nate tried to outrun the rest of the field but Clement and Evan hung in there to stay in the hunt. The train caught up to two back markers. Nate was lucky as he managed to get around both of them, but both Clement and Evan were stuck behind for a couple corners before they could make their way through. At that time, Nate had opened up a small gap

Clement and Evan continued to give chase and finally caught up to Nate once again. Clement had a run on Nate when he put a couple wheels off and pullef even but not enough to complete the pass.

The white flag last lap flag was shown soon after. Clement tried a last lap pass on the right right hander that lead to the "street side" straight and had side to side contact with Nate. Both of them continued with Nate coming out ahead by 2/10ths at the checkered.

We'll have a separate qualifying and race tomorrow on Sunday.
