Oh my goodness! This trip did not fail, despite the fact that we had to outrun a hurricane!

We wanted to take a moment to share our sincerest appreciation with the entire crew who kept us safe, comfortable, and well-informed throughout our trip aboard the Quino del Mar from September 20-October 2, 2026.

Despite the impending storm and the adjustments that had to be made to our itinerary, we never felt anxious or unsafe. The crew kept us informed every step of the way, and we always felt we were in the most capable hands. That peace of mind meant so much to us!

We must give a special shout-out to our dive guide, K**e, who kept us safe as we navigated the murky, warm waters and the extremely strong currents we encountered most days. He was incredibly knowledgeable, not only about diving and marine life, but also about Baja, Mexico, and the Sea of Cortez. His expertise, calm demeanor, and sheer enthusiasm made every dive an experience to remember. We couldn't have asked for a better guide!

And, of course, we cannot forget the amazing panga drivers! They were always right there waiting to pull our weary bodies out of the water after a dive. They were consistently smiling, helpful, and incredibly hardworking, somehow managing to do it all under that hot, grueling Baja sun. We truly appreciated their hard work and the care they showed us every single day.

We would also be remiss if we didn't recognize the incredible work happening behind the scenes inside the boat. Polo (Eduardo) was always wearing that huge smile and was ready to lend a hand wherever needed. Since I only did 16 dives and spent quite a bit of time around the boat and crew, I had plenty of opportunities to see just how hard he worked. I honestly don't think I ever saw him take a break! He was constantly on the move, always helping, and always making sure things were taken care of. His dedication did not go unnoticed.

And then there was the chef and the rest of the interior crew, who did an absolutely amazing job of keeping us well-fed and, quite possibly, fattening us up along the way! Every meal was another reminder of how much care and effort went into making our experience so enjoyable. Thank you for all the hard work that made life aboard so comfortable.

You were absolutely right about the internet being accessible most of the time! As you know, we normally love to completely unplug when we travel. However, given our recent circumstances, knowing I could stay in touch with home was surprisingly comforting and definitely helped ease some of my anxiety while we were away. I appreciated that reassurance more than you know.

All in all, despite the hurricane disruption and a few unexpected adventures along the way, we had an incredible trip and made memories we will never forget.

Thank you again to the entire Quino del Mar team for taking such wonderful care of us and making us feel safe, welcome, and genuinely cared for throughout the adventure. Your professionalism, hard work, and positive attitudes made all the difference.

We may have had to outrun a hurricane, but this trip was absolutely a success!

I was a passenger/diver on the liveaboard that left Rocky Point on September 19th and returned because of the predicted path of Hurricane Polo in the Sea of Cortez. Despite this unfathomable disappointment, I wanted to write to share my deep appreciation for the crew of the Rocio del Mar for the portion of the trip when we were in their care.

I've never done a liveaboard before, so I had no way of knowing what to expect beyond what I read in your brochure on the website. The trip and the crew under the watchful guidance of Captain Julio and Bob, the senior divemaster, exceeded my expectations! I could not be more pleased and satisfied with all aspects of the daily operation of the boat and the diving that we enjoyed. Some highlights:

- Chef Savin and Steward Miguel, with help from Everardo, were phenomenal and daily served us exceptional meals that were worthy of a first-class restaurant. The soups, main courses, desserts, and attention to detail in flavors and food preparation for all meals were extraordinary, given we were on a relatively small boat at sea. All of us really enjoyed each meal.

- Bob, Ivan, and Nacho were outstanding as dive masters. I learned so much about the unique marine life of the area, especially from Bob and Ivan, and looked forward to each dive with great anticipation. Sure, some dives were better than others because the ocean conditions (krill soup, thick algae, or wild currents) made some dives more challenging, but despite this, I loved every dive in the water. Thanks to all the guys for making us feel safe and informed, and for providing a fun experience. A special shout-out to Ivan too for patiently coaching one of the divers who was at times a little out of his element and lacking confidence.

- The rest of the crew who managed the boat and the pangas were very professional, fun to be with, knowledgeable, courteous, and hard-working.

Overall, despite the disappointment of having to turn back early, I had a blast in this unique part of the world and look forward, perhaps next year, to diving the southern portion of the Sea of Cortez that we missed this trip.

I look forward to joining one of your boats in the near future for a diving journey in the south, and hopefully, Bob will be on board as lead dive master. It would be super fun and an honor to dive with him again.
