The San Diego Kendo Club offers courses in kendo and practices it as a form of budo that trains the mind and body.
Operating as usual
We hope you are all staying safe amid both the COVID pandemic and the protests. While this may seem like dark times, these events shall pass and we will come out of it stronger, and ready to tackle any obstacle. In regards to reopening, we are still working with officials and the SCKO board. This process takes time, but I want to assure you all, that this planning will help keep everyone safe. In the mean time, we will be updating the workout list on Facebook later this week. We have also added some other video links so you can continue to enjoy Kendo in the comfort of your own home. Please continue to stay active, if you have any questions please feel free to contact us in the message window. Thank you all for your patience and consideration.
While these new times may seem difficult, we are all in this together as a community and as a family. Even though San Diego Kendo Club may be temporarily closed due to COVID-19, you can still do Kendo and suburi at home. Below is workout you can do in your spare time to stay active. Before doing this, please warm-up with a walk or run, and stretching exercises. Please trying to engage in some form of physical activity at least 30 consistent minutes a day 5 days a week. For the suburi, please make sure you have enough room to swing overhead (high ceilings or outside). Feel free to join this Facebook group [email protected] to see what other kenshi all over the world are doing to help pass the time. Hellen Keller once said, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." As a dojo and as a team, we will get through this together and while still accomplishing our goals. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out at any time.

Update 3/13 at 1:30 pm:
Thank you all for your patience. Practice is canceled tonight due to a power outage at the school. It will also be cancelled through April 10th due to the coronavirus issue. We know you all have been working hard towards shinsa and tournaments, but we appreciate your consideration during this time. Please continue to practice suburi and kata at home. We will continue to update you on practices and events as things progress. Thank you 🙏
I know some of you have questions regarding future Kendo practices during the coronavirus outbreak. I am currently speaking directly to SCKO board members and the school district. With that being said, tonight the dojo will be open from 7:30pm-8:30pm for just kata tutoring. You do not need to wear dogi, and you can come in your street clothes. Please only bring your bokken. This practice is optional, If you would like to stay home, we will honor and respect your decision.
There is a possibility that practices will be cancelled for the rest of the month. We are monitoring the situation on a weekly basis and will continue to be in contact with you all. Please continue to wash your hands and be mindful of your surroundings. As a dojo, we will overcome this challenge and continue to be successful in our Kendo endeavors. Thank you
