North Park Fastpitch

NorthPark Fastpitch will be closing its doors. We do not have a board to run the league. I am sorry we will not have girls fastpitch softball in North Park any longer, but there are a number of other girls softball leagues in the area.

For those girls still looking for a team, San Diego Fastpitch is trying to put together a 12U team. John is a great coach and they play in City Heights at the lighted De la Cruz park. You can email the league at [email protected]

We have are unable to form teams this spring season so, I'm sorry to report that NPFP will not be holding a spring season this year. We will try to organize earlier for a fall season in a few months. Thank you all for your support.

As president of North Park Fastpitch, I want to take a moment to address the issues currently facing our community. I have struggled to find the words to put into this letter to our softball community not because I don’t agree with the Black Live Matter movement nor the protests marches, but because I have always felt as a white middle class male my voice is the last one that needs to be heard right now. However, it is my voice as a representative of NPFP, an organization that has strived to be all-inclusive and supportive of all the girls and their families in our community that makes the following statements.

NPFP supports the notion that all people across this community should be treated equally and receive equal justice! We have been fighting this fight for too long now across too many divides. I’d like to say we are better than this, but let’s face it, we founded this country on these divides and we’ve been fighting to erase them for over 200 years now. Equality for blacks, women, LGBTQ. When does it, end and why do have to keep fighting? When I look at 12 girls playing softball together, I see hope that the next generation will be just a little bit better. 12 girls playing a game and having fun with a common goal who will all grow up with memories of a time together, no us/ them/ other. That’s one tangible goal we can work together toward.

On another note, watch your email box for a note next week on the end of Spring Season and update to our league.

A quick update on our 2020 season. As I’m sure you have guessed, we will not be continuing our season this week. The city parks where we practice and play are still closed.

We are in continuous communication with Southern California USA softball as well as Southern San Diego USA Softball regarding continuing the season as best we can. USA softball is strongly recommending every league to extend their season into May or June to allow the girls to play some sort of season after the parks re-open. We are working with them and will work with the city to try to obtain ball-fields to get some games in after the parks re-open. I will have another conference call with USA Softball in 3 weeks and I will be in contact with the city Parks Department as soon as they are back in the office. As soon as I have some more information, I will pass it along to you.

It is with disappointment that I write to tell you we are suspending our 2020 season temporarily due to concerns regarding the transmission of the new COVID-19 virus. We had set a policy of playing games until/ unless the SD Unified School District closed school, and today we learned the school superintendent announced they will close schools beginning Monday through April 6. We also learned the Peninsula League had suspended their season.

We will be suspending our season beginning today through April 6. No games or practices until Monday April 6. We will keep and eye on the situation and keep posting on our Facebook and Instagram sites as we get closer to this date to let you know if things change. Be safe, have fun and come back healthy and ready to play.

Regarding the COVID-19 virus - USA Softball has no coherent policy on this situation and other leagues do not seem to be canceling games. Our league's policy currently is to cancel games if local schools close. We will revisit this policy if more information comes to our attention.
