Earl Clark was another champion of Leo Stern's Gym, located in San Diego, California. His major bodybuilding wins include the 1958 NABBA Amateur Mr. Universe contest.
Earl was born in 1928 in Evansville, Indiana. He graduated high school in 1947 and went to work at Briggs Auto Plant, a subdivision of Chrysler. In 1952, he won the AAU Mr. Indiana contest and placed second at the AAU Jr. Mr. America event.
In 1954, Earl and his wife, Caroline.....his high school sweetheart.....moved to Chula Vista, California, where he worked at the Chula Vista Health Club, prior to becoming a deliveryman for a local dairy.
Clark won the the 1963 IFBB Mr. World title in Belgrade, Yugoslovia, but failed to win that years IFBB Mr. Universe contest. In 1968, he co-authoted the book Temple Builder.
In 1971, he began the construction of Earl Clark's Health Club, a 15,000 square-foot two-story operation. The gym consisted of the finest exercise equipment, a swimmimg pool, sauna, a rear patio for sun bathing, and separate training facilities for men and women.
In 1971, Clark opened Earl Clark's Health Club in Chula Vista. The new $200.000 operation consisted of a two-story, 15,000-square-foot operation, with a swimming pool, sauna bath, separate studios for men and women.
One of Earl's dreams was having an avacado ranch which came true in 1990 in Bonsell, California, In 1998, he retired to Boonville, Indiana to be closer to family.
Earl Clark, the "Baron Builder", died in 2016, at age 87. He was survived by his wife Caroline of 67 years.
