Good Afternoon Trail Friends,

Well we just got hit by a firestorm. With less than a week left till race day, the USFS has pulled our permit due to fire safety concerns. All US Forest land is being shut down.

Because we have already purchased the necessary things for the race we are in talks to reschedule it for 10/16. We feel that this date will be the least abrasive to the community and other races coming up in our area (we also like to volunteer at our friends races). This mean that we are going to roll Oriflamme 50K to its normally scheduled spot on 4/16/2022. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If the PCT50 new rescheduled event date doesn't work for you please let us know, and we will roll you into the 2022 event which we anticipate with be 05/14/2022. Additionally the new anticipated date for Oriflamme 50k will be 04/16/2022. Thanks again for your patience it has been a lot of preparation on your part to be ready to run an event and we are just as disappointed that this has happened. Last thing- We have been having some communication issues as we create a system around social media and email please send your emails or questions to either Sean Scace via Facebook or to [email protected] for the quickest correspondence. We are working hard to put on some awesome trail events for you so you can accomplish your goals. Stay safe out there and we will see you out on the trails.

Sorrowfully,
SWTR

Good Evening Trail Friends!

We wanted to give everyone an update on the race schedule as we begin to reopen. We couldn’t get a non-COVID-restricted permit from the state in time to put on “The Peak” this year. With that being said we are going to reschedule the race for next year and roll over all the entrants. Anyone from “The Peak” will have the option to roll into Old West 50k or Oriflamme 50k.  We will be pushing forward with adding people and getting our race series back on track and in operation. If you have a roll over coming your way, expect to see an email reinviting you back into the race from UltraSignUp.

Here are a list of the other races that will be coming up this year:

PCT50 09/04/2021
Oriflamme 50k 10/16/2021
Old West Trails 11/13/2021
ABC50 12/4/2021
R.O.O.T. 12/18/2021

As always, if these dates do not work for you please let us know and we will roll you over into the 2022 event for final race productions. Thanks for your patiences and here is a list of our anticpated dates for next year 2022 races:

02/19/2022 (Ranch 50k & Half Marathon)
03/12/2022 (Old West 50k / M/ HM)

After the leadership meeting that the US Forest Services had internally earlier this week, The Cleveland National Forest Administration has decreed a blanket statement disallowing all permitting for outdoor running events until Fall of 2021. This affects many of our local races, including our own , which we were expecting to host on Saturday, May 22nd. We are coordinating efforts with other local race directors to continue this discussion, however at this point we will need to delay the event in order to put it on effectively. We are targeting a late Autumn / early Winter date, and will let our runners know as soon as we have more details.

and fall under different jurisdiction and we are actively working to host those in 2021. No further details are currently available.

04/21/2021

We had a great meeting with US Forest Services today! They have some COVID restrictions that would not enable us to host The the way that the runners deserve, however given our comprehensive COVID race plan and proven event strategy, we have been given the opportunity to present our case to higher leadership within the Cleveland National Forest Organization later this week. We expect to know definitively if the May 22nd race date will work no later than this Saturday the 25th. We have created contingency plans regardless of the outcome of these meetings and will let runners know what our plan is soon after. All runners wishing to roll their entry from 2020’s event to 2022 will have the opportunity to do so until Sunday the 26th. Thank you all for your patience as the planning for this race unfolds. We are so excited to potentially host The PCT 50 in 2021, and can’t wait to see you all out there.

Stay tuned, Trail Friends!

Hello Trail Friends,

With the state of California dropping into the "Orange Tier" of COVID restrictions and potentially being reopened in June, we are optimistic about the possibility of hosting the 2021 . However, due to the continued volatility of the situation, as well as the potential conflict of PCT thru hikers, we believe we will have the best chance to host the race if we move the date from May 15th to May 22nd. We want to give current rollover runners (from the 2020 race that didn't happen) the option to run in 2021 if they would like to, however, we are going to give anyone who wishes to have the opportunity to transfer into either ABC 50 in December 2021 or PCT 50 2022 instead if they are not comfortable with the potential for this race to be transformed in to a self-supported event. We are still working on the permit for PCT 50 and hope to have it soon, but can not guarantee that this race will happen yet. Anyone who wishes to ride this out with us in the hopes that it does go off will have a spot. If the race doesn't go off, we will turn this into a virtual, self-supported race and everyone who decided to move forward with us will be able to bypass the lottery and get back in next year except you will have to repay as we will begin obligating these funds for the 2021 race immediately.

We want to thank everyone for all your support and are looking forward to putting on another great event in the near future.

04/21/2020

Hi, everyone.

I just got a phone call from the US Forest Service with the official word that we will not be able to hold the PCT 50 on May 16. I am working with them to see if we can possibly reschedule to a later date this year. If this is possible, I should know that date by next week.

So, at this point, you can do one of three things:

1. Wait until you hear if we have a 2020 date and what that will be (so no need to do anything right now);

2. Ask me to roll over your entry to 2021; or,

3. Ask me to roll over your entry to this year's ABC 50 on December 5.

For those of you choosing the first option, once I have a new 2020 date, you will still have the opportunity to roll into either next year's PCT 50 or this year's ABC 50.

Thanks.

John

Since we are about 30 days away from May 16, I wanted to check in to let you know where things stand.

As of today, the Forest Service still considers both the PCT 50 and SD 100 (scheduled for June 5) a "go", as their shutdown guidelines currently only run through April 30 and all they can do is follow protocol. Personally, I would be surprised were these restrictions not extended at least through some part of May.

The SD 100 RDs have decided they will make a go/no-go decision on their own by the end of next week. They have issues that extend far beyond those of putting on a 50 miler, so they need to decide sooner rather than later. What happens with the SD 100 may likely impact our ability to reschedule for this year. Were SD 100 to decide to drop their race, it could potentially open the possibility for us to slide into a late June date were May 16 shut down by the Forest Service.

Even if the race were to proceed as planned on May 16 or somehow in June, my intention is that all runners will have options. I understand that training under current conditions is a challenge and just because the race is somehow pulled off doesn't mean everyone is going to be prepared to run it. I also realize some of you are traveling into town and may not be able to do so. So, if the race does end up happening in May or June, you will be able to opt out and roll your entry into either ABC 50 in December or next year's PCT 50.

So, please sit tight just a little longer--one way or another you will have a race option. I am working as best as I can to provide a resolution as quickly as possible. I'll be back in touch very soon. Thanks for your understanding.

John
