Hey Trail Friends!
Old West News: On the tails of the PCT50 we have been trying to work with and coordinate with permitting organization Cal Parks and have been unable to secure the permit for our scheduled November 13th Old West race date. We always want to put on a great race, providing the best experience possible for our runners, and for this reason we have decided due to Covid restrictions and mandates that we are going to roll Old West 50k, Marathon, and Half Marathon over to 2022. We are going to have this event on March 12th, 2022. This was a hard decision for us but after coordination with Pinnacle Endurance we decided this is what’s best for the runners to have the best experience possible. We apologize for any inconvenience in the training schedule for those who have worked hard but as we are only a few weeks out and don’t want to take away from the other races we feel like this is the most responsible angle we can take for the runners and the community! We have been approved for our dates for ABC50 as well as ROOT and will continue building momentum to ensure we have a well planned and consistent race calendar! Additionally we have some new fun races we will announce coming up!
We will also be scheduling some training runs for ABC50 in the coming weeks between our good friends at Ghost Runners and SURF! Thanks for all the patience! And we can’t wait to put on first class events that include all walks of life in the next year! Stay healthy and safe, and we will see you out on the trails!

Hey Trail Friends,
We wanted to update everyone, regarding the Old West 50k. Unfortunately with the covid restrictions still applying until June 15th, We were struggling to be able to file a permit to allow the race to continue on in a way that makes sense to us, and gives the race the best chance to kick off in the way you deserve. With that said we are going to reschedule the race later in the year (To be determined) We apologize for the inconvenience that this causes, we are optimistic that moving forward all the other remaining races that we have will go off without a hitch and will be permitted without an issue. We are looking forward to putting on events again and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks again for your support through all of this and we can't wait to get races back to normal.

Good Evening Trail Friends,
We wanted to wait as long as we could before we had to throw in the towel on getting a permit for “Old West” this year, but it looks like Cal Parks will not be entertaining special events permits for the foreseeable future. Due to this we are going to move the race to 6-19-2021. We additionally are going to make this a special edition Old West race, and make it Old West “Dusk Settles”: a late evening night race that will test your resolve. Anyone who does not wish to participate in this can either move into our Ranch 50k / Half Marathon Event, Peak 50k / Marathon / Half or roll over into our 2022 Old West event. We appreciate every one of you who has been working with us through Covid and are working hard to put on first class events that will enable you to accomplish the goals you have set!
Train hard and we will see you out on the trails!

Well, folks.
We got an email from the State with our signed permit and not 5 minutes later the Park Superintendent called to tell us they were rescinding our permit. Cited a "6 foot separation" rule for all attendees.
So, the race is off. I'm going to try and figure out what we can do, as at this point it is a significant financial hit, but I will be back in touch soon with thoughts on roll-overs, partial refunds, or getting you into some other Pinnacle races on some level instead.
For those of you who were planning on Oriflamme, that, too, was cancelled with this phone call.

Hi, everyone.
I have received a number of questions regarding the race, given COVID-19 health concerns and some road races being cancelled today.
The situation is highly fluid and can, of course, change at any moment. However, as of right now Old West is still on for this Saturday, March 14. Since we are operating under permit authority of the California State Park System, we are thus following any guidelines or restrictions they might provide. At this point they have not advised us of any concerns and we are thus proceeding as planned.
Note that our event has less than 250 participants and thus complies with Governor Newsom's request that public events in excess of 250 attendees be cancelled. Even so, we are taking steps to maximize the safety of all who attend. Specifically,
1) We are cancelling the Friday night pasta dinner. While less than 50 were expected, the dinner was to be held in an enclosed environment where attendees would be in close proximity to one another. Our apologies to those who were planning on attending. We will reimburse those few who pre-paid for the dinner when we see them on Saturday.
2) All aid station captains have been directed to serve individual packets of food, as opposed to "communal" chips, etc. Should you wish a PB&J or piece of fruit, we will provide that to you in a manner that minimizes mutual contact. Further, note this is a cupless race. To that extent, we will be providing each of you with a re-usable plastic cup when you check-in on Saturday morning.
3) While we will have refreshments at the finish, please be aware we will not be serving such in the dining hall in order to minimize attendees from close contact. We will take your food requests outside and serve everyone individually.
4) Finisher medals will be laid out on a table for you to grab at the finish. We will refrain from the traditional "laying of the medal" over you. Also, recognize we are a sweaty mess when we finish, so group hugs and such should be discouraged.
Most importantly, should you or any of your family or friends who might plan on attending be experiencing any respiratory, coughing, flu-like or other medical concerns, it would be in everyone's best interest for anyone in this condition to remain at home.
Thanks in great part to Mary Lou Lackey and Larry Pustinger, we marked the course this morning, so we are all set to go on that end. Note that trail conditions will be a bit muddy due to the recent rains, but they were still in pretty good shape when we were out there.
We will, of course, advise you immediately should we receive a new directive from the State Park System regarding the event. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you this Saturday.
